ESPN's Football Power Index surprisingly has UT favored in all of their games except for two.

I don't know if he had a brain fart at the end, but he doesn't mention OK State and some of you may remember his brother, Darrion, signed with them in 2015.

Update on 2018 WR Stanley Lambert of San Antonio Marshall who was the standout of the UTL camp and attended practice last weekend (24/7).
“It was really good,” Stanley said. “The tempo was fast and everybody was physical.”
“I’m more of a speed, fast tempo dude,” Lambert said. “The way UT runs things, I think I’ll fit right in there.”
“They can really get somewhere with it,” Lambert said. “This is fast tempo and that’s what they do. I think they’ll catch teams off guard with how fast the tempo is.”
“They compete academically and athletically,” Lambert said. “They compete, compete and compete. That’s what I think UT is about. They’re all about competing.”
Tech picked up a commitment from 2018 RB Stanley Hackett of Pasadena Sam Rayburn.

Jeff Howe from last night:
was told by a person close to Erick Fowler tonight that all of his summer school work and tests are done and he's submitted everything to the NCAA Clearinghouse.
There's nothing left for Fowler to do at this point.
The wait officially begins to see if/when Fowler will join the program. It's all up to the Clearinghouse now.

According to a report from another Texas-based website (Rivals.com), Tyrone Swoopes is the head and shoulders leader in the team's quarterback battle.
That goes against anything and everything I've heard for the past four months AND the first week of practice.
The word preposterous came to mind when I first heard about the report.
Since hearing the report last night, I've spoken to not one, not two, but three different sources in the last 12 hours.
Here's what I am told:
Shane Buechele is leading the QB compe ion. Buechele is extremely close to being named the starter at the position.
I say this not to anoint Buechele as the best thing since sliced bread; Buechele certainly has areas where he needs to improve as well as experience to gain.
However, it's clear to those making the decisions on the offensive side of the ball that Buechele is leading the compe ion.

Three sources. All agree.
Two of the sources chuckled at even the thought of Swoopes leading the compe ion. The third was merely sent via text message.

Some practice notes from yesterday...
- For the fifth consecutive practice, I am told Shane Buechele took more reps with the ones than Swoopes.
- Kai Locksley worked some at punt return last night. But it appears Jacorey Warrick may be the front runner for the spot.

Some football team notes Horns Sports.
I caught up with some sources to discuss the latest with the team.
1) There was a report out from Orangebloods' Anwar Richardson that Swoopes was blowing the field away in the QB compe ion. First let me say that Anwar is a very good reporter, and he's reporting what his sources are telling him. I spoke with my sources in Austin to get the latest, and they were dumbfounded by it. 2 of them outright laughed at the idea, and they re-iterated they expect Shane to be the guy this year. I also talked to a couple of players, and every one of them said they think Shane wins the job. In addition, I talked to some others in the media and they all say the same thing I'm hearing. I'm not sure who the source is for Anwar, but either he's being misled, or he's waaaaay ahead of the curve.
2) There were some whispers that Deshon Elliott has overtaken Jason Hall for the safety position. Elliott has done well this summer, and his focus has been to get in the film room more than anything. While he is making progress, the job is still Hall's from what we understand.
3) Denzel Okafor is for real, and he's starting to make a push at right tackle.
4) there's some difference in opinion on when a starter might be named quarterback. The majority of my sources believe it will be next week following the first scrimmage, but there are a few that believe this will stretch out to game week. The reps have been split between Swoopes and Buechele, but we are told if there is an edge it is toward Buechele.
They ever figure out what happened with this? The why?
Rumor is he hit a female, but I don't think that'll ever be confirmed.

Inside Texas confirmed a rumor that C Zach Shackelford had a lower leg injury today in practice.
They believe it's an ankle issue and he won't be scrimmaging tomorrow.
