Crossed the Red River line...
There are a lot of gruesome ways to take this botched tube cut.

The quarterback situation seems pretty clear at this point, even if it doesn't make all that much sense to many. A good example of it not making sense to people was yesterday when I was at a birthday gathering that featured heavy Longhorn fan representation.
"Swoopes isn't really going to start, is he?" I replied that it appears most likely at this point, to which my wife almost spit out her beer.
Even though I disagree with the logic, I can allow myself to believe Swoopes starts for reasons like he's the veteran, it will be a crazy environment, etc.
I can't allow myself to believe he gets more than two or three series before he's pulled.

Thoughts on new Rivals 100 rankings (Texas players)

There's no logic in that argument to allo of us who have seen him play when pressure is applied. I like Swoopes, think he's an incredible asset to the team, and works his ass off, but getting fooled again.
Like I said, I disagree, but it's the only thing I can think of to try and understand the coaches' mindset.
Maybe it's like 2011 BYU. Remember that game?
Mack had to see Gilbert fail one last time before he replaced him for good.
However, if Swoopes gets significant time and sucks, UT won't be able to come back on Notre Dame.
This is what I'm believing as well, TFloss. Let's all remember that Buechele is a true FR and no matter who starts,
Swoopes was always going to get PT with the 18 wheeler package.
Let things calm down a bit before inserting him into the game. Everyone should temper their expectations instead of expecting him
to light the world on fire from day 1.
I can see the other side to the argument as well.
If you start Swoopes in order to protect Buechele, it wouldn't make sense to insert him in the game if Swoopes fails and Texas gets behind by a few scores.
I think we all expect Buechele to take over at some point this season, it's just unclear when that might be.
I have to think that if Swoopes does start then Strong has the support from his team. If the team believes in Swoopes , then they will rally around him. Shane has a different mindset than most freshman, but even he will feel the pressure of 100000 fans on his shoulders. That is a lot for anyone. I think it's kind of smart to ease him in to the system with packages during the game. I would do that as coach. Start with Swoopes with a run-heavy series or two, then let Shane have a couple. Game 2 though, you start Shane against UTEP and let him gain confidence.
I've seen the Swoopes show so many times, I'm expecting Buechele to start against UTEP.
The only question I have is how many series Swoopes gets against Notre Dame if it's clear he can't get it done.
Call scoreboard if you want on this one...as others have just said he will fail, again. Buechele is the QB, whether Swoopes starts at QB against ND or not.
What I hate about this is the potential to mess with Swoopes' confidence. He's great at his role. I'd hate for him to fail again at starting QB and it shake him mentally.
If Swoopes does not move the chains, and ND moves the ball at will like last year, we get killed again 1st game. I can see Swoopes getting a good portion of the game if the D holds up and he has some success in a low scoring game. ND has two QBs that can get it done so I don't anticipate us watching Swoopes overthrow another easy screen while we are down 14-0.
I really believe we must get 1st downs and we must take time off the clock. We are too young and thin on defense.
Charlie has me fooled. I have no clue who he is going to start. If I had to guess, I would pick SB, but that may be more wishful thinking than anything.
All this madness really began with someones opinion while at a party with fellow Longhorns fans, hahahaa. I love how the line begins the "QB situation seems clear." Couldn't be further from the truth, I don't know that Gilbert and Strong have a clear idea on who to start at Notre Dame. I hope Shane gets the nod with some help from the 18 wheeler package. Shane has had the right mindset and blue collar mentality to earn the spot, whenever a freshman comes in and pushes a senior QB, of all people to work harder you know you have an issue. That tells you Swoopes and Heard were not taking the role as serious as necessary. Any time you've heard of glowing reviews from any of the QB's over the summer and fall camp it's been mostly in regards to Shane. I say we roll with him and let him learn as he goes it won't be easy but he's where our future lies, it's a good investment.
I love how descriptions of the quarterback battle being neck and neck portends Swoopes starting. Dude's a senior. He shouldn't be neck and neck with a true freshman.
bbbut he wasn't in the right system

Right system, wrong system, doesn't matter.
What matters is right now we are going into a game at home against a top 10 team, and we (the fans) have no confidence in the probable starter.
I have no problem with Swoops starting, As long as he doesn't turn the ball over I think we should be okay. I do hope that if he isn't productive then we will bring in Shane.
If I were Strong, I would game plan to give Swoops the first two series and then turn it over to Shane for the next two. For both QBs I'd make my first play a play action bomb to Burt. Stretch out that defense and give our RBs the lanes to get some yardage.
