    In light of the first decision, the judge in charge advised them to accept a financial agreement: $ 150 000 to be shared, and the promise that security in cinemas would be improved. If they refused the deal and lost the trial, they would have to pay court costs.

    The negotiations were going fine until one of the victims refused the agreement. A mother, she had lost a child and the baby she was carrying. Only four other complainants followed her, all the others desisted. And Cinemark won again: “A blind guy in a dark alley could have seen [the state verdict] coming,” Harding, Weaver’s attorney, said.

    The four survivors will have to pay at least $ 700 000 in court costs, calculated the Los Angeles Times.
