The brutality of the game is why it's such a spectacle.
Yep, players like Rod Woodson, Ronnie Lott, and Chuck Cecil would have spent 75% of their careers suspended if they had played with today's rules. I understand all of the player safety stuff, but damn I miss seeing guys getting laid out every game.

Like buddy who watched just said....
Imagine if that was Brady getting the same hits that Cam Newton got last night.

    Fark!

Cam Haters blaming him for the loss, when the reality was he made a great final drive after getting cheapshotted multiple times by Donkey. Put them in position to win for what was a chip shot field goal (kickers range plus Mile High).

Also the 4th and 1 *1st down* by Denver, I'm calling bull . Any of you superior techys able to get us a replay of that?

BTW I was pulling for Denver and do not like Newton.
It wasn't all his fault (Rivera's an idiot and their secondary is a mess), but he deserves much of the blame. He still can't handle pressure at all - he was 3-10 for 24 yards when passing under pressure last night. He also showed no sense of urgency, continually letting the play clock run down to 1 on the last drive. Benjamin and Olsen were carrying his ass, per par. Overall, he got outplayed by Siemian, a nobody in his first start ever, which is embarrassing for the reigning MVP.

The Donks are undeniably a dirty team and they got away with a few helmet-to-helmets that other teams wouldn't, but the Pantherefs were allowed to blatantly hold Von Miller all game long with no calls, and the ref$ kept pushing them down the field with bull penalties. Let's not pretend that Carolina didn't get the benefit of a friendly whistle. The league is going all-out to push Scam as the new face of the league, and the Panthers are getting the officiating that comes with that.

I said I'd reconsider my opinion of Cam if I saw him beating teams with his brain and his arm like a real franchise QB this year. It's early, but I'm not seeing it. I'm seeing the same old Cam with the same immaturity and glaring flaws, six seasons into his career. At some point, he is what he is and it's not good enough to justify the hype.

"There Is no foul for holding on a member of the kicking team on the play as the ball was kicked to a member of the defense.
It will be Carolinas ball 1st and 10. Time out."

    4th qtr 3:06 left.
Denver had just punted the ball to Carolina.

    That's it, and that's all.

how many of those hits were because he's running around instead of staying in the pocket?

it seems like "mobile" qb's are always the ones who don't get protected from the refs and the league, while the old fashioned pocket qb's get the red jersey treatment. imagine if that was drew brees or tom brady getting hit above the shoulders like that. i hope they don't let defenses tee off on dak like that.

I read once that helmet-to-helmet wasn't illegal if the QB rolled out. I think it was in the context of Colt McCoy having been lit up by James Harrison like five years ago. Anyway, those hits were dirty and all, but people acting like Cam shouldn't've been penalized for grounding because he was trying to avoid an illegal hit are idiots.

exactly, he's the reason that play didn't get the penalty yardage and most likely the win, cause he threw a dumbass pass.

Siemian wasn't great by any means, but his decision-making was pretty good overall and made a few nice throws. He actually played better under pressure than he did with a clean pocket. Meanwhile, Cam shat the bed when pressured and throughout the second half in general.

to a degree, same reason why running backs wont get helmet to helmet calls between the hashes... because that contact is all but inevitable. but you can't be leading with the crown of your helmet as a weapon. the darian stewart hit was ridiculously blatant, and the marshall one, too

    You're such a ing idiot.

There was absolutely no tape on Trevor. He was not required to read the defense, he averaged less than a second in the pocket - which accounted for his embarrassing turnovers. Meanwhile, Cam orchestrated two straight drives, while converting multiple times on fourth down to put us in an excellent position to win the game. He had 55 yards rushing and the only two touchdowns of the game for Carolina. He was calm in the pocket, and did a fantastic job. That throw to Ted Ginn at the end with 9 seconds left was beautiful.

Nobody cares about your biased opinion. No amount of advanced stats without context will change that.

You should cut Gano and trade us Kuechly and Short and we'll give you Bailey, Wilcox and a 2nd.

you ordinarily dont see wilson taking those big hits, despite his tendency to run and hold the ball... he's typically smarter when he moves around to avoid hits, and of course he's smaller. when you're a big target like cam and you move around the way he does, yeah he's going to be prone to taking big shots. same with big ben

but that's not a green light for players to launch in helmet-first the way darian stewart did

It's a scheduled loss anyway, particularly without Brady (AZ wasn't losing their home opener with or without Brady/Gronk). Good move by Belichick pulling a Popovich. Let the Patriots see what they have in their youngsters/backups.

Good game between two pretty good up-and-coming teams in stacked division, think the Bucs would win if they were at home
