Colin Powell Called Benghazi ‘Stupid Witch Hunt’ In Email To Condi Rice

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell dismissed the years-long Republican outcry over the 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya as “a stupid witch hunt” in leaked emails published by BuzzFeed News on Tuesday.

“Benghazi is a stupid witch hunt. Basic fault falls on a courageous ambassador who thoughts Libyans now love me and I am ok in this very vulnerable place,” Powell wrote in a December 2015 email to former Secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, according to BuzzFeed.

His email refers to Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, one of four Americans killed in the 2012 raid.

This exchange was included among the emails obtained by DCLeaks.com, a website that U.S. security officials have suggested may be tied to Russian intelligence services.

The same site has leaked private emails and do ents connected to liberal billionaire George Soros’ philanthropy and volunteers for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Powell confirmed the authenticity of his emails to NBC.

Eight congressional committees have launched investigations into Clinton’s handling of the Benghazi attack, which occurred while she was secretary of state, and Republicans have frequently invoked the incident to criticize her record at the State Department.

In his email to Rice, Powell wrote that Ambassador Stevens and State Department officials shared responsibility for the attack on the compound.

“Blame also rests on his leaders and supports back here. Pat Kennedy, Intel community, DS and yes HRC,” Powell wrote, according to BuzzFeed, referring to Hillary Rodham Clinton by her initials.

“Completely agree,” Rice replied, according to BuzzFeed, adding, “Let me know when you’re in town and we’ll have that glass of wine (or two).”

You forgot some more leaked Powell emails

“I didn't tell Hillary to have a private server at home, connected to the Clinton Foundation, two contractors, took away 60,000 emails, had her own domain,” Powell said in one Feb. 4 email to former Reagan White House chief of staff Kenneth Duberstein, in the latest cache of hacked communications among top Washington insiders to emerge in the heat of this year’s presidential campaign.

In a separate email that day to Condoleezza Rice, who succeeded him as George W. Bush’s secretary of state, Powell wrote: “Been on the phone and email all afternoon. Hillary and Elijah mings have popped off.”
Two days later, Rice wrote back, “I don't think Hillary's — ‘everyone did it,’ is flying.”

On another occasion, Powell complained in an email to Lawrence Wilkerson, his former chief of staff.

"HRC and her mishandling of this has really given her a major problem I do not wish to get involved in, despite the best efforts of her team to drag me in," Powell wrote on Sept. 7, 2015.

POLITICO obtained access to these and other Powell emails from a website calling itself DC Leaks. Security experts have connected DC Leaks to an ongoing Russian government cyberattack campaign targeting U.S. political ins utions and state election offices.
A Powell spokeswoman did not respond to an email asking if the leaked messages were authentic. But Powell didn’t challenge a separate set of leaked emails published Tuesday by BuzzFeed, telling the news site: “I’m not denying it.” (In those emails, BuzzFeed reported, he called Donald Trump “a national disgrace.”)

A Powell spokesperson also told ABC that the leaked emails "are accurate."

What's so funny? That's basically what every Democrat paying attention thinks, and he's a Republican voting for her.

This is also what every sane person thinks:

Former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, who served as President George W. Bush’s top diplomat, derided Donald J. Trump as a “national disgrace” and an “international pariah”.

“Yup, the whole birther movement was racist,” Mr. Powell wrote in an email to a former aide, according to BuzzFeed. “That’s what the 99% believe. When Trump couldn’t keep that up he said he also wanted to see if the certificate noted that he was a Muslim. As I have said before, ‘What if he was?’ Muslims are born as Americans everyday.”

Colin Powell Blasted Trump’s Chief Military Adviser As “Right-Wing Nutty,” “A Jerk”

“He has been and was right-wing nutty every [sic] since,” Powell write in personal emails about retired Gen. Michael Flynn

Colin Powell, a retired four-star general who served under three Republican presidents, slammed Donald Trump’s closest military adviser, retired Gen. Michael Flynn, as “right-wing nutty” and “a jerk” according to the former secretary of state’s personal emails seen by BuzzFeed News.

Flynn has been advising Trump and is a close confidant of the Republican nominee. Powell was discussing Flynn, who served as the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency for two years under president Obama with Powell’s son, former FCC chairman Michael Powell. The two Powells were discussing Flynn’s speech to the Republican National Convention, where he led a chant of “lock her up” about Hillary Clinton.

“I spoke at DIA last month,” Powell wrote in a July 19 email exchange with his son. “Flynn got fired as head of DIA. His replacement is a black Marine 3-star. I asked why Flynn got fired. Abusive with staff, didn’t listen, worked against policy, bad management, etc. He has been and was right-wing nutty every [sic] since. I watched about five minutes on line of his talked [sic] and switched off.”

The Washington Post reported when Flynn was forced out of the DIA that “critics said that his management style could be chaotic,” and he clashed with other senior intelligence officials. Flynn, when was being vetted as a possible vice presidential candidate for Trump, wrote in the New York Post that the “military fired me for calling our enemies radical jihadis.” In a profile of Flynn last month, the Washington Post spoke to a former senior U.S. intelligence official who disputed Flynn’s characterization of his firing, saying it was “about turbulence and a destructive climate” during his tenure.

“Thought it was disgraceful to see a military officer leading chants for a putative President of the United States to be ‘locked up,’” Michael Powell wrote back to his father.

“Pattern of behavior which is why he was fired, real question is how he got that far in the Army,” Powell wrote back. “Found no coverage of his remarks.”

“No surprise, the performance was really terrible. He bumbled, message incoherent and shrill,” Michael Powell said.

The website DCLeaks.com — which has reported, but not confirmed, ties to Russian intelligence services — obtained Powell’s emails. It may be the latest example of a Russian en y potentially trying to influence the US presidential election — in July, the FBI said it believed Russia was behind the hack of the Democratic National Committee’s internal emails right before the party’s convention.

Powell declined to comment on the emails to BuzzFeed News.

In another exchange in early August with Harlan Ullman, the chairman of the Killowen Group, Powell again showed his disdain for Flynn.

“Gen. Flynn is a jerk. Got canned out of DIA,” wrote Powell.

“Trump has Trumped himself. I thought he was merely dyslexic and narcissistic. I now believe he is mentally unbalanced and quite possibly deranged,” Ullman wrote to Powell in the same exchange.

“No question about it. Still nutty statements as of yesterday,” Powell wrote back.

Similarly, Powell panned Flynn’s performance in an interview with Al-Jazeera English in an early August exchange with a Reuters reporter.

“I watched an Al Jaz reporter eat Flynn’s lunch for almost ten minutes. He had done his homework,” he said.

In a mid-August exchange with a Reuters reporter, Powell was more diplomatic on Flynn, speaking as an unnamed official.

“I never knew or served with Flynn,” wrote Powell. “You know how long I have been out. [He] came to my attention by some rather drastic changes he was trying to impose on DIA operations. He was either eased out or fired. I hear two different stories. Talking to people in the know his real problem was leadership and management issues at DIA. Senior staff was in incipient revolt,” he wrote.

Democratic Senator Told Donor That Hillary Could ‘Barely Climb the Podium Steps’

    by Alex Griswold | 12:31 pm, September 14th, 2016

In a leaked email, Democratic megadonor Jeffrey Leeds said that a Democratic senator had told him Hillary Clinton had difficulty even climbing a podium when they did a joint event.

Leeds has donated large amounts to Democratic candidates and the Clinton Foundation over the years. In a 2015 email that was leaked after the hack of former Republican Secretary of State Colin Powell‘s email account, he told Powell privately that one of Clinton’s former Senate colleagues was concerned about her health.

“[Democratic Rhode Island Senator] Sheldon Whitehouse, who is a huge Clinton supporter, said they were both giving speeches at the same event a few months back and she could barely climb the podium steps,” Leeds told Powell.

Powell responded that he hadn’t heard anything specific, but “I think there’s something to it. On HD TV she doesn’t look good. She’s working herself to death.”

“She will turn 70 her first year in office,” he pointed out later in the email.

Colin Powell Called The Cheneys Idiots

“They are idiots and spent force peddling a book that ain’t going nowhere,” he said in an email about the former vice president’s book with his daughter.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell slammed his former Bush Administration colleague Cheney in private emails seen by BuzzFeed News, saying about the former vice president’s book written with his daughter, Liz, “They are idiots and spent force peddling a book that ain’t going nowhere.”

The email, to Kenneth Duberstein — the former White House chief of staff to President Ronald Regan — was about the Cheneys’ September 2015 book, Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America.

In another email, Duberstein wrote to Powell, “See acknowledgement in Cheney’s new book. Scary.” Powell replied, “Scary and the usual suspects. Will pass without a trace with most Americans.”

The emails reveal Powell’s criticism of Cheney’s book, which contains some of the former vice president’s views on America’s global influence — Powell and Cheney and the Bush administration’s decisions remain points of debate in the current presidential election. It also reveals Powell criticism of a book co-authored by Liz Cheney, who is the Republican nominee for Wyoming’s seat in the House of Representatives.

The website DCLeaks.com — which has reported, but not confirmed, ties to Russian intelligence services — obtained Powell’s emails. It may be the latest example of a Russian en y potentially trying to influence the US presidential election — in July, the FBI said it believed Russia was behind the hack of the Democratic National Committee’s internal emails right before they party’s convention.

When asked about the emails, Powell told BuzzFeed News “Ok. Bye bye,” and hung up.

On August 10, 2004, just two weeks after Obama had given his much-heralded keynote speech at the DNC in Boston, a perennial Republican Senate candidate and self-described “independent contrarian columnist” named Andy Martin issued a press release. In it, he announced a press conference in which he would expose Obama for having “lied to the American people” and “misrepresent[ed] his own heritage.”

Martin raised all kinds of strange allegations about Obama but focused on him attempting to hide his Muslim past. “It may well be that his concealment is meant to endanger Israel,” read Martin’s statement. “His Muslim religion would obviously raise serious questions in many Jewish circles where Obama now enjoys support.”

When I asked Martin for the source of his allegations about Obama’s past, he told me they came from “people in London, among other places.” Why London, I asked? “I started talking to them about Kenyan law. Every little morsel led me a little farther along.”

Andy Martin credited with a smear----"The original smear against Obama was that he was a crypto-Muslim, floated in 2004 by perennial Illinois political candidate and serial litigant Andy Martin"

Hillary Supporters credited with starting the birther movement----"Then, as Obama marched toward the presidency, a new suggestion emerged: That he was not eligible to serve. (See: Birther debate alive across U.S.)
That theory first emerged in the spring of 2008, as Clinton supporters circulated an anonymous email questioning Obama’s citizenship"

I'll allow a draw if you replace "movement" with "theory". It wasn't a "movement" until after Obummer was in office.
