White male privilege and the subservience of the justice system to rape culture in America was on full display when Iowa teenager Kraigen Grooms was given no jail time for an unspeakably heinous crime.
The sixteen-year-old was caught raping a two-year-old girl while another man filmed the horrific violation.
Prosecutors believed the April 2013 assault to have been premediated and that Grooms was targeting another child – but somehow was able to walk away free.
Grooms was arrested in March 2014 at the age of 17 and was charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a Grooms — who was arrested in March 2014, when he was 17 — was initially charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a felony that carries a 25-year prison term.
In July, however, Grooms plead guilty to “a lesser charge of engaging in a lascivious act with a child.” He was handed “a 10-year suspended sentence and five years of supervised release” and must register as a sex offender.
There was no explanation given why the now-nineteen year old was given such leniency for one of the most horrifying crimes a person can commit.
This man has already proven himself to a reprehensible monster – yet is offered the chance to redeem himself while black youths languish in our prisons for selling minor amounts of recreational marijuana.
The justice system in this country is obviously biased in favor of the white male, because time and time again judges want to give white rapists the benefit of the doubt and let them walk free, teaching them and the nation that rape is an excusable crime in this country.
I mean, with video evidence, anything short of a bullet to the head was lenient. But people need to stop ing about mandatory minimum sentencing. Don't sell drugs. It's not that hard. It's really not that hard to avoid doing most illegal . Stop trying to invoke my sympathy for your bad judgement.
