Clinton chairman subscribes to Daily Stock Tips

Leaked emails reveal that Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta receives daily stock market analysis from Motley Fool. In an email leaked last Friday, Podesta was advised by Motley Fool writers that Bank of America was a trendy Q4 stock pick in 2015. The email also hinted at additional tips from Motley Fool for a paid fee. It is uncertain if Podesta paid the subscription fee to reveal the additional stock tips from Motley Fool.

Clinton chairman cancelled dinner plans of Nov 12, 2015

Leaked emails revealed that Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta was scheduled to have dinner with a former High School classmate, Stan Walker, who was in the area on a business trip. In an email sent by Podesta on Nov. 8, he regretfully informs Walker that the upcoming Democratic primary has him neck deep at the office all week, so he will be unable to attend the previously scheduled dinner. He offers to meet Walker for dinner next time he is in town. No emails from Friday's leak confirm any additional details or indicate that the dinner was able to be rescheduled.

Starbucks CEO urged Clinton to reboot her campaign

Howard Schultz, the CEO of Starbucks and a supporter of Hillary Clinton, urged her top aides to reboot the campaign in July 2015.

Schultz emailed longtime Clinton loyalist Cheryl Mills with his concerns, who forwarded it to John Podesta. The conversation was made public when Podesta’s hacked emails were released by WikiLeaks.

Schultz is highly critical of the nascent Clinton campaign, saying it “feels stale with very few signs of the kind of freshness and transparency that the American people (especially millennials) will need to trust and ultimately elect HRC as President.”

He continues, saying the campaign feels “too packaged and prescribed.” Schultz encourages the campaign to shed its data-driven message and let Clinton be Clinton.

“Encourage her to be herself. And, to embrace her core purpose and reason for being. That's the lens it all needs to go through,’ he writes.

He also said it is “very apparent and concerning that the media is not on her side.”

Podesta didn't want to talk with Panetta aide after memoir

Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta didn’t want to talk to a top adviser to Leon Panetta on the day the former secretary of defense’s memoir came out in late 2014.

That’s likely because the memoir included a range of criticisms of President Barack Obama. Podesta, at the time, was serving as a counselor to Obama.

Panetta, in his book “Worthy Fights: A Memoir of Leadership in War and Peace” wrote that during the first four years of working for Obama he thought the president was a “strong leader on security issues” but in the last two Obama “kind of lost his way.” Panetta also blamed the Obama administration for how it handled Iraq and Syria.

So when a top Panetta aide emailed Podesta with the subject line “Leon,” the then-Obama counselor didn’t want to talk.

“John, can I call you? Jeremy,” Jeremy Bash, a top aide to Panetta, wrote in the October 7, 2014, email to Panetta.

“No,” Podesta responded without saying anything else.

Warren gave Clinton list of staff picks

Sen. Elizabeth Warren attempted to influence personnel picks in a Hillary Clinton presidential administration, presenting the campaign with a list of potential nominees, the latest batch of WikiLeaks hacked emails shows.

An unverified January 2015 email from Clinton speechwriting director Dan Schwerin to other campaign officials describes a discussion with longtime Warren aide Dan Geldon, following a meeting that Warren and Clinton had the previous month.

The adviser to the Massachusetts Democrat was "intently focused on personnel issues," the email read. He "laid out a detailed case against the [former Treasury Secretary] Bob Rubin school of Democratic policymakers, was very critical of the Obama administration's choices, and explained at length the opposition to Antonio Weiss," an investment banker whom Warren helped block from getting a top Treasury Department job.

Clinton staffer approved to leave the office early on Dec. 13, 2015

Leaked emails revealed that Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta approved a request from Clinton staffer Shirley Gaines to leave the office early to pick her in-laws up from the airport. In an email from Podesta to Gaines on December 5, he replies "No problem. -JP" when asked by Shirley if it would be alright for her to leave around 3pm on the 13th. She mentions that it's possible they would just take an Uber from the airport and she would inform Podesta of any change in plans. Additional emails did not include further updates on this request, or any details confirming that Gaines actually left the office early on Dec. 13.

Clinton chairman received email with no attachment

Leaked emails revealed that Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta received an email from office assistant Debbie Lawler that was supposed to include a do ent attached to the email. The email sent from Lawler to Podesta at 2:35pm on July 14, 2015, with the subject line "Conference Agenda," included the following from Lawler:

"John, please find attached the detailed agenda for the July 20 conference. Please let me know if you have any questions. - Deb"

Podesta responded at 4:27pm as follows: "No attachmt. -JP"

The leaked emails released by WikiLeaks last Friday included a response from Lawler of "So sorry!" along with the previously referenced conference agenda attachment, a PDF file detailing a two day Media and Campaigning Insights conference at the Hyatt Regency in Washington, DC on July 20 and 21. The agenda begins with Breakfast at 7:30am, followed by keynote speaker [read more at link]

Clinton campaign almost hired lawyer who sorted her personal server emails

As Hillary Clinton kicked off her presidential bid last year, her top aides apparently halted a plan to have the campaign hire Heather Samuelson, the lawyer who did the bulk of the screening of Clinton’s emails. In an April 4, 2015 email exchange, campaign manager Robby Mook informs campaign chairman John Podesta that Marc Elias, the top outside lawyer for Clinton’s bid, is in the process of adding Samuelson to the payroll.

“Elias is emailing me about her salary. Was there a decision about whether to bring her on?” Mook asks Podesta, in an email with the subject line, “Heather.”

“Last I left the conversation, no decision other than to put off for now,” Podesta replied.

“Elias thinks we are supposed to hire her and I haven't said he shouldn't,” Mook responds.

That prompted Podesta to add: “Probably slow down.”

Samuelson became controversial among GOP lawmakers and drew media attention after critics questioned the process used to separate the batch of work-related emails Clinton gave to the State Department from another set of allegedly personal ones that Clinton decided to erase. The decision has dogged Clinton throughout the campaign, including at Sunday night’s debate, where Donald Trump raised the issue again.

Samuelson, who worked in the Obama White House counsel’s office and later as White House liaison at the State Department, was expected to join the campaign early last year. A December 2014 email from Mook indicates Samuelson was involved in a team aides called “self research”—dredging up details on Clinton that opponents might use to attack her.

POLITICO reported last September that a bar listing for Samuelson showed her having moved to Brooklyn. She never appeared to join the campaign payroll. The same bar directory now shows her back in Washington.

EMAIL: CNN Jake Tapper congratulated Podesta on WH appointment
    http://www.theamericanmirror.com/ema...h-appointment/

“Hey john,” the December 2013 email was led.

“Congratulations on the pending appointment… I don’t suppose you’d want to come on my show on CNN to talk about what you home to accomplish?” Tapper wrote.

    “Happy holidays,” he ended.

The Washington Post reported at the time:

John D. Podesta, who was chief of staff to President Bill Clinton and is one of the Democratic Party’s most experienced strategists, is joining the White House to help President Obama salvage what has become a difficult second term.

Podesta, who has been an outside adviser to Obama since leading his presidential transition after the 2008 election, will formally join his inner circle as White House counselor for a year, according to sources familiar with the move.

It’s just one big happy family in the elite corridors of Washington, DC, isn’t it?

    BILL CLINTON ‘LOSING IT’

Bill Clinton has long had a soft spot for New Hampshire, the state that made him the “Comeback Kid” and helped propel him to the Democratic nomination in 1992. So when it seemed on Feb. 7 that Hillary Clinton was set to lose the state’s primary by a large margin, Bill did not take the news well.

“He’s losing it bad today,” Bill Clinton chief of staff Tina Flournoy wrote. “I’m not with him. If you’re in NH please see if you can talk to him.”

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders went on to beat Clinton in the Granite State 60-to-38 percent on Feb. 9.

Bill Clinton wasn’t alone in his despondency.

Neera Tanden, an activist and past adviser to Hillary Clinton, wrote to Podesta on Feb. 4: “What is wrong w the people of Nh?”

    COZY WITH THE PRESS

The alleged Podesta emails show a particular level of comfort with certain members of the news media.

CNBC correspondent John Harwood emailed Podesta numerous times, on some occasions to request an interview and other times to offer advice. On May 8, 2015, Harwood wrote an email with the subject line “Watch out.”

“Ben Carson could give you real trouble in a general [election],” Harwood wrote before linking to video clips of an interview Harwood did with the former pediatric neurosurgeon.

In a July 2015 email, New York Times reporter Mark Leibovich emailed communications director Jennifer Palmieri several chunks of an interview he did with Hillary Clinton, and seemingly asked permission for the “option to use the following” portions. Palmieri suggested he cut a reference Clinton made to Sarah Palin and remove Clinton’s quote, “And gay rights has moved much faster than women’s rights or civil rights, which is an interesting phenomenon.”

Palmieri ended one email: “Pleasure doing business!”

In a January 2015 memo, former Politico reporter Maggie Haberman, who now works for The New York Times, was described as having “a very good relationship” with the campaign.

“We have had her tee up stories for us before and have never been disappointed,” the memo said.

    HOPING FOR TRUMP

Hillary Clinton allies were apparently hoping the Republican primary electorate would nominate Donald Trump as the GOP candidate for president.

Media commentator Brent Budowsky wrote to Podesta on March 13 that “Right now I am petrified that Hillary is almost totally dependent on Republicans nominating Trump.”

“…..even a clown like Ted Cruz would be an even money bet to beat and this scares the of out me…..” Budowsky wrote.

A Democrat National Committee strategy do ent from April 7, 2015 also wrote about “elevating the Pied Piper candidates,” identified as Trump, Cruz and Carson.

    WALL STREET SPEECHES

Campaign research director Tony Carrk emailed top Clinton advisers on Jan. 25 with some “flags from HRC’s paid speeches” that were given during the time between her tenure as secretary of state and when she announced her presidential candidacy. Clinton has not released transcripts of those speeches despite numerous calls from her primary and general election opponents.

Among the red flags is Clinton admitting she’s “Kind Of Far Removed” from middle-class struggles due to “The Economic, You Know, Fortunes That My Husband And I Now Enjoy.” That speech was delivered to employees at Goldman-Black Rock on Feb. 4, 2014.

In a line that came back to bite her in Sunday night’s presidential debate, Clinton discussed needing “Both A Public And A Private Position” during a speech for National Multi-Housing Council in April 2013.

In other speeches, Clinton boasts of her ties to Wall Street, admits she needs Wall Street funding and says insiders are needed to fix problems on Wall Street. Sanders was a particular critic of Wall Street and so-called “economic inequality” during his protracted primary campaign against Clinton.

In another speech, Clinton said her “dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders.”

    SANDERS STRATEGY

Throughout the alleged Podesta emails, aides debate tactics against Clinton’s main 2016 primary rival, Sanders. Carrk forwarded a 71-page, nearly 50,000-word opposition research file on Oct. 28, 2015, picking apart nearly every policy and position of Sanders. “Attached are some hits that could either be written or deployed during the next debate on Sanders,” Carrk wrote.

On Jan.6, campaign adviser Mandy Grunwald and Palmieri debated how to respond to Sanders’ attacks on Clinton’s ties to Wall Street.

“I liked messing with Bernie on wall street at a staff level for the purposes of muddying the waters and throwing them off their game a bit,” Palmieri wrote. “But don’t know that it is most effective contrast for her. Seems like we are picking the fight he wants to have.”

Grunwald replied: “Bernie wants a fight on a Wall Street. We should not give him one.”

    ALLIES' SUPPORT FOR ISIS?

An alleged email sent from Hillary Clinton's account to Podesta on Aug. 17, 2014, noted that ISIS was receiving financial and logistical support from Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

“While this military/para-military operation is moving forward, we need to use our diplomatic and more traditional intelligence assets to bring pressure on the governments of Qatar and Saudi Arabia, which are providing clandestine financial and logistic support to [ISIS] and other radical Sunni groups in the region,” the email said.

It's unclear whether the email was actually authored by Clinton.

The Clinton campaign, meanwhile, has blasted WikiLeaks over the release, while ramping up its accusations that the group is working with the Russian government.

"It is absolutely disgraceful that the Trump campaign is cheering on a release today engineered by Vladimir Putin to interfere in this election, and this comes after Donald Trump encouraged more espionage over the summer and continued to deny the hack even happened at Sunday's debate," spokesman Glen Caplin said in a statement. "The timing shows you that even Putin knows Trump had a bad weekend and a bad debate. The only remaining question is why Donald Trump continues to make apologies for the Russians."

WikiLeaks: State Dept. Told Clinton What Emails it Was About to Release

The State Department provided Hillary Clinton's campaign with detailed information about emails it was about to release in response to Freedom of Information Act requests, according to emails released by WikiLeaks.

The emails referenced speeches by former President Bill Clinton (referred to by his initials as "WJC") and did not include emails from Hillary Clinton.

Cllinton aide Heather Samuelson wrote an email March 17, 2015 about the State Department's upcoming releases, according to the WikiLeaks hacks.

All—DOS is soon releasing another round of do ents and email traffic (not hers) in response to Judicial Watch's FOIA request on DOS's process for reviewing WJC's speaking engagements. It's 116 pages with approx. 50 sponsor/subsponsor requests. No objections by DOS in this batch, but some lengthy internal discussions among DOS officials that I highlighted below."

State Department spokesman John Kirby said that it is standard to share do ents that are subject to FOIA requests with outside agencies if those agencies have "propriety information" in the do ents.

Bill Clinton received invitations to speak in Turkey and Canada, according to the emails. He declined the Turkey invitation and accepted the Canadian one.

The Daily Caller reported that in previous WikiLeaks releases, the Obama administration is shown to have coordinated with Clinton's campaign on talking points regarding Clinton's use of a private email server.

The Washington Post editorial board looked at the WikiLeaks emails and praised the Democratic candidate for how she appears in them.

The Hillary Clinton that emerges is a knowledgeable, balanced political veteran with sound policy instincts and a mature sense of how to sustain a decent, stable democracy," the board wrote.

The emails WikiLeaks released apparently come from the account of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta. Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon slammed the WikiLeaks on Twitter:

Podesta fretted over hitting after Sanders on guns

Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta was hesitant to hit Bernie Sanders on his gun control record during the Democratic primary, as the chairman feared “blowback” from Hillary Clinton’s own supporters.

In a hacked email exchange from March, Podesta and other Clinton aides debated whether to challenge Sanders as part of a gun violence an op-ed they were drafting to run in the New York Daily News.

Podesta questioned the tactic, writing: “Should we directly hit Sanders in this NYDN oped right now? I’m a bit skeptical.”

Campaign communications director Jennifer Palmieri acknowledged that it was “maybe ... too hard” in the op-ed, but she suggested the campaign set up “some measure of contrast” on the issue between Clinton and Sanders, who had previously voted against some gun control measures. Palmieri wrote that it was part of a strategy to critique Sanders “occasionally,” despite Clinton’s lead in the race, so the attention was not just on her and Donald Trump.

“My theory is that we do not want to be in a one on one with Trump — but want to hit him occasionally,” Palmieri wrote. “In which case, we also need to be hitting Sanders occasionally so we can credibly say we are not only focused on the general.”

Podesta wrote back: “Interestingly, I am worried about blowback from our supporters.”

Palmieri, in turn, suggested an op-ed with “less contrast,” and an aide responded confirming that he would “tone down the contrast and recirculate.”

An op-ed that ran 10 days after the exchange did mention Sanders by name, citing the Vermont Senator’s votes that the National Rifle Association agreed with to argue the gun violence issue “highlights a genuine difference in the Democratic presidential primary.”
