I loved Boban while he was here. He was fun to watch. But all the talk this offseason about "Manu cost us Boban", and how Boban could have dominated as our starting C this year was ridiculous. Tonight Detroit got curb-stomped by Toronto. Detroit put Boban in the game for exactly 5 minutes. One missed FGA, one board, one steal, and 2 PF.

He's a nice guy, and I would have enjoyed seeing if the Spurs could have expanded their use of him this year. But he was nowhere near ready to be a starting C in the league, one any team - much less one that hopes to contend. As of now, he's pretty much an end of bench player for the Pistons. I'm glad he could get paid, but I'm also glad the Spurs didn't pay him that much.

Everyone loves Boban, but I honestly think Pop wanted to let him go. He's a ball stopper on offense and far too slow on defense. We needed someone much fleeter. Dedmon is the polar opposite of Boban and is what we need.

I think Van Gundy thought that Philly forced the Spurs to use valuable cap space on Manu, so he'd try to play the same game with Boban - only the Spurs didn't bite. Oops...

Heh. I wasn't going to say it out loud. But since you did.

The announcers kept talking last night about how much bigger the Spurs on the floor were, compared to the Warriors. With the exception of Patty and Forbes, the players on this year's roster are all fairly tall for their position - a couple are at least on the high side of average. (As long as Lee isn't playing the C, he's plenty tall for a PF.) They're tall, but they are also pretty mobile. Seems to me they filled their open roster spots with that in mind, no doubt to match up against Golden State. Boban is built for a different type of game. The Spurs could have used him to beat on some teams, but the Warriors would have run him ragged.

I think you're probably right. I'm sure they like Boban, but still saw that big offer from Detroit as a win-win.

I was impressed with Dedmon in the last game where he subbed in for Pau. Dedmon has that mobility to keep up with the GSW and bothered them enough in the defensive end. Good call by the PATFO to pickup Dedmon despite having any skills.

Agree. Frankly the opener was the best Dedmon has looked as a Spur (and good timing). He got some nice rebounds and looked solid defensively. More of that would help this team a lot.

GSW thrives on chaos because they can find a lot of mismatches. That's were Dedmon works out so well. He's fast enough to recover to bother some shots. Pau and Aldridge honestly have slow footwork and is a gaping defensive hole when fast players know they can easily blow by them.

I keep thinking about what Lee brings since he's also slow footed and does not have a lot of length. All I see with Lee is that he's savvy enough of a basketball player to know how to pass it well in offense. He also knows how to finish using different angles to the ring. However defensively he's a major liability. Spurs let go of that other mobile big that may have potential (i.e. LJC).

Boban was essentially useless in games that matter because he can't guard any half decent P&R. There's no point wasting a roster spot on a guy like that.

He'll be back in Europe in 2 years tbh. But good luck to him.

Even if that's true, he'll be back in Europe with $21 Million, a smokin' little wife, and a tank of Budweiser. How much good luck does one man need?
