Furthermore, when Manu throws the ball to an empty spot when playing with three or four new players, I'm more likely to suspect that there was supposed to be a person in that spot.

Agreed.. Dude has earned a pass for sure. If it's the playoffs and he's having multiple bad games, then maybe. He's just trying to get his body in shape. He knows how to pace himself

They're in vastly different positions. Simmons has never proven anything in this league and has continued to look like utter and complete garbage through summer league and into preseason. At this point he's not worth the roster spot he's taking up. Part of that reality is due to Manu not retiring, but at this point I think we're all breathing a sigh of relief that Green/Simmons isn't the 2 guard rotation.
