    last game, yeh?

What rotation are you guys expecting? A regular season dress rehearsal? Or minutes for some players gunning for the 15th spot?
I would expect lots of experimentation. Pop treats the regular season as preseason anyway.

They also assume Laprovittola doesn't make the team. He has been the front runner for me, though all 3 guys have a good chance.

The SAExpress News writers have been pimping Forbes a lot. I think they have their favorites and their least liked just like everyone here.

I agree with you though. Livio looks improved. He doesn't deserve the cut if one looks at him in perspective. He looked like a pile of dodo in summer league (sorry Chinook), but since then he has been hitting a midrange jumper he didn't have, and has been executing what they want to do better.

They are likely to less satisfied with 27 yr. old J.Simms who has gotten Spurs coaching for 4 seasons now (if you count the 2 dleague seasons as one should). He has been using something like 28% of the possessions when he's on the floor which seems excessive, (that is higher than Kiwi levels who is at 27%, to give you an idea). I remember one of the things that sunk Daye among others was that he had this huge usage % that was unjustified by his talent level.

I have also liked Laprovittola handling the ball better than when JSimms does it TBH. Laprovittola gets others involved better. One almost gets the feeling with Simmons that unless it is a transition basket, giving him the ball is going to end up in a selfish shot. I haven't liked what he's doing out there.

The only thing I can think of with him is that they need him for depth. Manu is 39 and will need rest. Spurs are one wing injury away from Anderson playing at least 30 minutes per game. Then you add in Manu's age etc, and the wing situation is fragile. Even when Dijon may be be able to help at the SG spot, he's a rook, he doesn't shoot, he's super skinny and will get bullied by real NBA wings. It's dicey.

Anyways, I don't think they can be happy with Simmons and I hope they reign in that high usage for example, but they need him for depth. There is no other way around it. If they get fed up with him, I'd go with Garino, not with the guys SAExpress projects. I am sure some would take Garino over Simmons right now.
Everyone keeps thrashing Simmons. I think he needs to be given some slack by the fans. Spurs need an athletic guard and none of the new guys are going to fill that kind of a role.

Laprovittola is the best ball handler in the entire team. He can also shoot the 3 very well and from the dribble. Forbes can shoot well but needs to be setup and doesn't have good enough point guard skills. Lapro also has a very keen sense as to where the ball will go and he makes use of that to pick off steals. Honestly, I'm surprised that Spurs fans aren't thrilled about this guy.

I think the reason Simmons is getting so much flack is because he has not progressed in a year+ with the team. If anything, he has regressed.

Granted, coming in with that athleticism, I think expectations were probably too high for him. That being said...unless he is on a breakaway or happens to luck into the rare open lane to the basket...he really hasn't been of much use. His dribbling has been erratic and his play-making has been non-existent. His three-point percentage, which used to be an asset, dipped later in the year and he doesn't seem to go to it as much. And his defense leaves much to be desired.

I agree that the team could use some more athleticism off the bench but...it's hard to justify that if he can't really do anything else well. Considering that he is 27 and hasn't showed much progress in his game despite two summer leagues and a full season with the team...he ain't gonna get any more athletic, and all of his other skills seem to have hit their ceiling.

I love the guys story as a walk-on to the NBA...but I think that the Spurs are better going with prospects they can develop than a one-trick pony whose one trick doesn't seem to be very useful anymore.

    His dribbling has been erratic...
That's a good way to put it tbh. Almost verging on compliment.

Simmons hasn't been very good TBH. Being an athlete will only get him so far bc most guys are just as good of an athlete and a lot of them have more size than him. Playing smarter and moving the ball would help him out a lot but he's been a TO machine. Sorry but I haven't liked that. More than double the TO over his assists is horrible.

But, even with all that, I am not saying he will get cut. In fact I said the opposite: that the team can't spare him unless they bring up another wing in his spot, which seems unlikely. His best asset has been the transition game.

[Feigen] Rockets pulling a Spurs tonight. Trevor Ariza, James Harden, Clint Capela, Eric Gordon did not make trip. Pat Beverley of course is out.

Isn't this the third straight game with no Simmons (counting the scrimmage?)

    Maybe there is something afoot.

Jonathon is cheaper to let go of than LJC. Just saying. It's been a couple years and he has shown little improvement. You'd think Patfo would want give at least a year to see if he can carve out a niche(Livio).

Apparently he's injured. Right calf contusion per Spurs.

She got an offer from the KC Chiefs doing pretty much the same thing she was doing for the Spurs. She's from Kansas City, so it was a no brainer for her to accept.

WTF didn't Santschi leave the Chiefs prior to joining the Spurs? I think she was rumored to have been messing around with Aaron Murray.

Also is are the Rockets doing a telecast of this game?
