Too green and doesn't bring any defense. Manu may be old, but he is crafty and can run the offense. Let Bertans bring his shooting off the bench.
Manu doesn't bring much defense these days either, and at least with Bertans you get someone who knows his role: shoot the ball. Manu and Parker lose some of their effectiveness without the ball in their hands (especially Parker with his mediocre spot-up ability) and with the SL chock-full of players who need the ball in their hands things could get extremely messy.

Bad news IMO. Crappy start to the season without Danny no matter who steps up.

Unfortunately Danny and Kyle are literally polar opposite players. So while Kyle may need to step up, there is no chance of him bringing what Danny brings.

Spurs will have to change the game plan for a while.

Id rather they keep Garino, I have a bad feeling about this in general. Every season it's someone and it's weird Danny started with a bruise that kept him out of contact drills at least 2 weeks and now this. He's been an ironman two seasons. Remarkably durable and healthy.

Like I said I just have a bad feeling about this start to the season by Danny.

Agreed... he's going to have to do more on his own end for sure, but definitely different players on both ends. Maybe Pop plays Kiwi more at SG. But it's clear they need others.... Those two and Manu ain't enough for 3 weeks.

    Dijon? What's you take?

'Who told you Manu will be allowed to run my offense with the first unit?'

Really doesn't make sense to start Manu in a season opener & have him waste energy trying to guard Klay. This is the perfect opportunity for Simmons/Kyle to prove they are worthy of rotation minutes for the rest of the season. Coaches are usually assessing their players/rotation early in the season so Pop most likely doesn't mind the injury as much as he would have after the trade deadline.

Unless TP/Manu have an early juice like last season, i'm expecting a rough start for the Spurs..

Absolutely agree. Now is their moment. Place them in the fire now. See who flames up and who flames out.

Seriously not a big deal tbh. Spurs are being extra cautious and it's literally before the season. Spurs have young guys who we need to look at and go throw growing pains. The start of the season is the perfect time for it.

The pessimism on this board tho is something else....

It depends how you look at it, Draymond Green got his career jump-started in his 3rd season when All-Star David Lee got injured during pre-season (before that he was a fringe rotation player like your boy Fat Head).

Simmons/Fathead could be playing for their future here in the next couple of months..

I posted in another thread, Garino would be wisest pick for roster spot for this very reason. He covers alot more positions on defense and he's solid on offense. He's more versatile than Forbes, defensively speaking. He could theoretically start so the rotation is butchered like pop has done in the past, but who knows. Maybe pop isn't too concerned with wins and losses which should be paramount this year.

I would not be mad at Garino being the 15th guy for those very reasons. And, for most teams, the 15th guy is generally a near-disaster when on the court, but Garino is pretty controlled. He knows his limitations, yet isn't inhibited by them.

    I can get behind this.

If Simmons wets the bed, they could waive him & sign Garino.
