I am one of the biggest Bertans fans on here, but he'd get massacred by Durant. That said, trial by fire...
Yea I know. My thinking is, if KD is dropping 30... might as well get some points from our SF tbh. Kyle is no scorer

I'd like to see Bertans start myself tbh.
"These playoffs aren't for him." :pop

I hope you're ready for that.

Seriously not a big deal tbh. Spurs are being extra cautious and it's literally before the season. Spurs have young guys who we need to look at and go throw growing pains. The start of the season is the perfect time for it.

The pessimism on this board tho is something else....
A lot of fairweather fans that have only been around for the "good years." Would have love to have seen them around for the 2009 - '10 season when the team only won 50 games and had to start Roger Mason Jr.

One idiot is acctually bailing early and talking up the Cowboys. As if they won't start choking once Romo returns and starts losing them games.

Anyway, Danny's defense will be sorely missed for the next 3 weeks, but especially against the ridiculous Golden State lineup on Tuesday. His shooting hadn't appeared much better from last season (note: couldn't watch games, only looking at box score), so I'm not sure how his absence would effect the offense.

Dijounte or Davis will have to play some early season minutes which is good to evaluate where they are at early on. Needless to say, Anderson and Simmons will really need to show that Pop and company's faith in them is justified. Otherwise, they'll need to start scouring the trash heap for some needed wing depth or help.

You are a complete and utter moron. Green is an adequate starting shooting guard (even more vital when his shot is falling) while those two guys are just fringe NBA players. Thank goodness you aren't in any position to make personnel decisions with that illogical thinking.

This event pops up the real question.
Having such a limited backcourt, why the did we give Livio Jean Charles a guaranteed contract?

Had to do with him being a first-round pick and the team "having" to bring him over. I don't know the real details of the matter, but I believe Chinook went over it during the summer time.

He is definitely a waste of a roster spot unless he magically jumps up huge levels in ability the next few weeks and months.

He is probably the worst player on any NBA roster, right now.

How is that we "had" to bring him?

Is there any rights the spurs would have lost if they´d not brought him over?

Pop will most likely place one of the 3rd string SGs in Green's place so it doesn't disrupt the normal bench rotation.

Not sure exactly, but I believe if you draft a player in the 1st round and go certain amount of years without signing them they become a free agent. So the Spurs "promised" to draft and eventually bring over Jean-Charles with the understanding that he would have a roster spot waiting for him.

Gonna have to let someone with more intimate knowledge of the CBA and the Jean-Charles/Spurs situation add more intricate details. From my understanding their hands were tied and they were more or less "forced" to bring him over.

I would have much rather had Nikola Milutinov brought over and used the last roster spot to find another wing option to really compete with Simmons.

It will be Kyle and Kawhi starting at the wings. Whether you want to call it SF or SG, it's all the same. Pop views wings as interchangeable, which I agree with. What they're labeled as (SG or SF) has more to do with their size, not skill set.

Until when you gonna keep with that spurs fan mainstream myth like danny green is a legitimate starter?

Gross. The starting lineup with Kyle in there had 6 points at the 6 minute mark against a D'Antoni team last night...

Pop wasn't happy with it and benched Kyle for Forbes in the second half

I would take with a grain of salt any subs ution that Pop makes during the pre-season.

    This new season...

Really, season can't start off any worse.
They haven't even played their first game and have one starter injured, other two playing ugly, the media spread rumors about trades because everyone is expecting Spurs' epic collapse.
And don't forget as well opening tim Tim Duncan won't be hugging that ball anymore

    those were the "bad years"?

some people are rightly freaking out because this team doesn't have the Duncan's security blanket, especially on defense.

Yes, in the Duncan era those were the "salad" years. Obviously, those weren't truly "bad" seasons but to fans used to winninng and contending they were.

Pretty sure half the people on this board haven't been following the team since around 1997.

Freaking out is a stupid reaction when Pop, Kawhi, the front-office, (to a lesser extent) LaMarcus, Tony and Manu are still around. They'll probay win the division (have you looked at the other teams rosters (?)), but winning a le will be tough with or without Duncan.

Like I said, cliff jumping and overacting is silly when you still have a top 4 player and the best coach in the NBA.

Most of this board is a bunch of bandwagon jumpers. Very few were fans pre-Duncan. It drives me nuts how some of these idiots want to immediately rebuild the team and trade LMA. My home team is the Hornets and I can say straight up it's not fun watching a ty team year in and year out and just hoping they can become mediocre. Most of these fans don't have a clue how difficult it is to rebuild. They assume if the spurs rebuild that the FO will be able to build a contender in a few years but that's not guaranteed. The Warriors are the favorites but I still like having a top 4-5 team versus having to root for a 20-30 win squad.

This forum would be a nightmare if we were to rebuild.

    At any point.

Expect Anderson to start, Leonard to primarily defend shooting guards, Simmons to be the fourth wing and Forbes to push for spot minutes.

I don't know if it's the outdated positional listing or weight (he's actually roughly 230, though obviously still lacks strength), but Bertans is not an option at small forward. He said himself that he'll be exclusively playing power forward and has been deployed as such in the preseason. Besides, outside of him, this is a roster with 4 and 1/2 bigs and 9 and 1/2 points and wings.

This really sucks though obviously. This is a big year for Danny and with so many new faces, regardless of minutes/rotation, we really needed the starting lineup to be crisp and effective.

danny is a pretender. He shows up for about a tenth of the season.
