Listened to NPR elections podcast, they mentioned that they may confirm Garland in a lame duck session after the election but the bigger issue for the GOP is that 3 Justices are at least 79 and two of them are considered liberal, meaning that there is a better chance than not that Clinton could nominate at least two more Justices in her first term.
Obama should definitely withdraw that nomination after the election if the senate goes blue, as this could be the only chance to get someone liberal on the court. The senate surely will go red in the 2018 election (unless Trump wants to run for the senate also), so Clinton will likely only have a couple of years to nominate someone from the left assuming she wins and the senate flips this election. I imagine Ginsburg won't make it through the term, but I don't know that she retires in two years.
