Trump consolidating some of the available anti-Clinton vote as opposed to Clinton’s support eroding,”

said GOP strategist Bruce Haynes.

“Now the question is do people interpret this news in a way that raises enough doubts about Clinton’s judgment to cut into her number. Because it’s not enough for Trump’s number to move up. Hers has to go down.”

I just don’t think anything is going to change the fundamentals, which favor Clinton.”

“It’s not just the electoral map,” Goeas continued. “The thing about polling is: polling assumes both campaigns are equal. You

look at quality of surrogates, money raised, ground game — she has an advantage in all that.

So you basically have to look at the polling and say it reflects the worst-case scenario for her.”

“She was knocking on 400 electoral votes; that’s going to slide back,”

“It’s just really unlikely that there is an undecided bloc of voters still weighing Hillary Clinton’s emails. I think

everyone made up their minds a long time ago on that subject.”

In Indiana, a 30-year-old mother who beat her 7-year-old son with a coat hanger, causing "36 deep-purple bruises," will serve only a year of probation after seeking to have the charges entirely dismissed due to her religious motivations for beating the child—because religion excuses all. Her defense attorney, Greg Bowes, argued in court records that Indiana’s religious freedom law protects her from prosecution.

The state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act, or RFRA, was signed into law by Gov. Mike Pence (R) last year. The law says the government must first prove a compelling interest before it intrudes on someone’s religious liberty, and it must do so in the least restrictive way.

Sen. Richard Burr privately mused over the weekend that gun owners may want to put a "bullseye" on Hillary Clinton, according to audio obtained by CNN.

The North Carolina Republican, locked in a tight race for reelection, quipped that

as he walked into a gun shop "nothing made me feel better" than seeing a magazine about rifles "with a picture of Hillary Clinton on the front of it."

New Report Uncovers Secret Trump Server That Repeatedly Communicated With Russia

While the media continues to focus on the Clinton email non-story, news about Donald Trump's ties to Russia continues to gain steam.

Not only did NBC just report that the FBI is now in the preliminary stages of investigating Trump’s ex-campaign manager’s connection to Russia, but Slate also reported on Monday that a Trump server may have repeatedly been communicating with a Russian bank.

Slate claims that while a group of computer scientists was looking into the Russian cyber attack of the DNC, they stumbled onto something unexpectedly.

The report:

In late July, one of these scientists—who asked to be referred to as Tea Leaves, a pseudonym that would protect his relationship with the networks and banks that employ him to sift their data—found what looked like malware emanating from Russia.

The destination domain had Trump in its name, which of course attracted Tea Leaves’ attention.

But his discovery of the data was pure happenstance—a surprising needle in a large haystack of DNS lookups on his screen.

“I have an outlier here that connects to Russia in a strange way,” he wrote in his notes.

He couldn’t quite figure it out at first.

But what he saw was a bank in Moscow that kept irregularly pinging a server registered to the Trump Organization on Fifth Avenue.

More data was needed, so he began carefully keeping logs of the Trump server’s DNS activity.

As he collected the logs, he would circulate them in periodic batches to colleagues in the cybersecurity world.

Six of them began scrutinizing them for clues.

The researchers quickly dismissed their initial fear that the logs represented a malware attack.

The communication wasn’t the work of bots.

The irregular pattern of server lookups actually resembled the pattern of human conversation—conversations that began during office hours in New York and continued during office hours in Moscow.

It dawned on the researchers that this wasn’t an attack, but

a sustained relationship between a server registered to the Trump Organization and two servers registered to an en y called Alfa Bank.

This news doesn’t come out of nowhere.

Trump has repeatedly praised Vladimir Putin as a strong leader, all while taking pro-Russia positions throughout the campaign that come straight off a Kremlin wishlist.

The Clinton campaign was quick to jump on the report in a statement by Clinton Senior Policy Adviser Jake Sullivan:

This secret hotline may be the key to unlocking the mystery of Trump’s ties to Russia.

It certainly seems the Trump Organization felt it had something to hide, given that it apparently took steps to conceal the link when it was discovered by journalists.

This line of communication may help explain Trump’s bizarre adoration of Vladimir Putin and endorsement of so many pro-Kremlin positions throughout this campaign.

It raises even more troubling questions in light of Russia’s masterminding of hacking efforts that are clearly intended to hurt Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

We can only assume that federal authorities will now explore this direct connection between Trump and Russia as part of their existing probe into Russia’s meddling in our elections.

Trump’s pro-Russia rhetoric and policy positions are not a coincidence. The more information that comes out, the clearer it is that the Republican nominee has connections to Russia that he is hiding from voters.

With just a week until Election Day, this is the explosive story the media should be focusing on. It’s critical that the American people know what kind of financial ties a potential president has with an American adversary, especially when that adversary is Russia.

A Veteran Spy Has Given the FBI Information Alleging a Russian Operation to Cultivate Donald Trump

tells Mother Jonesthat in recent months he provided the bureau with memos, based on his recent interactions with Russian sources,

contending the Russian government has for years tried to co-opt and assist Trump —

and that the FBI requested more information from him.

"This is something of huge significance, way above party politics," the former intelligence officer says. "I think [Trump's] own party should be aware of this stuff as well."

Does this mean the FBI is investigating whether Russian intelligence has attempted to develop a secret relationship with Trump or cultivate him as an asset?

Was the former intelligence officer and his material deemed credible or not?

An FBI spokeswoman says, "Normally, we don't talk about whether we are investigating anything."

But a senior US government official not involved in this case but familiar with the former spy tells Mother Jones that he has been a credible source with a proven record of providing reliable, sensitive, and important information to the US government.

Donald Trump Used Legally Dubious Method to Avoid Paying Taxes

newly obtained do ents show that in the early 1990s, as he scrambled to stave off financial ruin, Mr. Trump avoided reporting hundreds of millions of dollars in taxable income by using a tax avoidance maneuver so legally dubious his own lawyers advised him that the Internal Revenue Service would most likely declare it improper if he were audited.

Thanks to this one maneuver, which was later outlawed by Congress, Mr. Trump potentially escaped paying tens of millions of dollars in federal personal income taxes.

Tax experts who reviewed the newly obtained do ents for The New York Times said Mr. Trump’s tax avoidance maneuver, conjured from ambiguous provisions of highly technical tax court rulings, clearly pushed the edge of the envelope of what tax laws permitted at the time. “Whatever loophole existed was not ‘exploited’ here, but stretched beyond any recognition,”

the tax experts said the maneuver trampled a core tenet of American tax policy by conferring enormous tax benefits on Mr. Trump for losing vast amounts of other people’s money — in this case, money investors and banks had entrusted to him to build a casino empire in Atlantic City.

In the eyes of the I.R.S., a dollar of canceled debt is the same as a dollar of taxable income. This meant Mr. Trump faced the painful prospect of having to report the hundreds of millions of dollars of canceled debt as if it were hundreds of millions of dollars of taxable income.

United States tax laws allowed Mr. Trump to use that $916 million loss to cancel out an equivalent amount of taxable income. But tax experts have been debating how Mr. Trump could have legally declared a deduction of that magnitude at all. Among other things, they have noted that Mr. Trump’s huge casino losses should have been offset by the hundreds of millions of dollars in taxable income he surely must have reported to the I.R.S. in the form of canceled casino debt.
