>the player has since died
Solid reading comprehension, Alejandro.
Also, my money's on Wilt.
Stern took over in 84 and I think Wilt retired in 74 or so. It's probably someone who played a year or two in the league and then flamed out.
Kirby it is then.
Maybe it was Chick Hearn?
There was rampant speculation that Kobe had HIV b/c he would not let the team doctors treat him; and he was always at the Euro clinics.
I'm wondering who the player that died was. If he was like a real name (even well known role player), or if it was some two bit player who nobody's heard of.....
Kobe or Derek Fisher most likely. Except both still alive.
Gonna say Wilt. Bet dollars to donuts he was bisexual.
Interesting; though if it were him, that would make Stern's revelation more remarkable. He tends to look out for the league's legacy.
It's much more likely DRob is bi than Wilt.
That is the stupidest sh** I've read on here in a week; and I read a lot of stupid sh** here.
Isiah Thomas
Mark Aguirre
Greg Kessler
Not AC Green
It wasn't him. Wilt retired in 73 and Stern took over in 84.
Stern said he knew of one other NBA player to contract HIV during his tenure as commissioner, but that the diagnosis came after the player’s career ended, was not made public, and that the player has since died.
anthony mason, kevin duckworth, reggie lewis, drazen petrovic, bison dele, len bias, manute bol, dennis johnson. off the top of my head i can't think of any other NBAer who died after '84.
First guy I thought of was Quentin Dailey.
"Hot Rod" John Williams?
53, died in a hospital, battling with complications related to prostate cancer, said the agent of Williams, Mark Bartelstein.
I dunno, i just can't picture him bending Magic over.
Yikes. This would fit:
Heavily recruited out of high school, Dailey chose to attend the University of San Francisco from among the 200 colleges that pursued him
Probably Michael Wright. Stern didn't say the guy died from HIV.
