He basically said that geographic variants or varieties that are fittest for a particular ENVIRONMENT are more likely to survive and produce offspring with genes more like the parents. Based on this, the most successful species by far are all the bacterial species which don't even have a nervous system. In fact, it could be argued that humans, and their big brains, have found ways to extinguish themselves so very easily that being stupid is a genetic advantage in the long term.

Darwin himself also wrote that it is very hard to determine who in a society is best fit for that society and that natural selection could have a very low impact on human races as cultural evolution must also be studied. This, of course, is totally left out.

Those quotes from Darwin himself leave out the other things he wrote. Which is the norm for an agenda. The strength of Darwins Origin specifically, is that he criticizes weaknesses in his own arguments. For example, he admitted he had no clue on how genetic variation arose, or how it got transmitted genetically. Some then wrote that this then totally ruins the whole idea of natural selection, which it does not. So you got "researchers" leaving his own arguments against his own ideas out in the above.

As an aside Mendel had actually proved inherentance factors so Darwin theoretically had access to Mendel's work (was not discovered till the early 1900s). Thus my name on this site, pgardn. Peas, garden.

What is also interesting is that Darwin was a very careful man and mindful of the impact his ideas in The Origin would have on religious beliefs. If Darwin was alive today he would be pleased to see how the Catholic Church has resolved this and not worried so much. He did not like public debates because he was a poor speaker. Not all those that defended his ideas in public said things that he would have wanted. But for the most part his "bulldogs" got it close enough.
