Some guys in BR believe that a big part of the problem is also the lack of great "laterales". Argentina has produced really good ones in the past like Zanetti and Sorin but now they're left with the modern "troncos", guys that defend in a line of 4 but can't do offensively. To me the level of ARG "laterales" has gone downhill.

I'm not counting you guys out yet. You guys need a HC change, but I fail to see Argentina not qualifying for Russia. A WC without ARG or BR is not complete, it's that simple. Messi not going to his last WC would be a disgrace for football.
I'm quite estonished by Brazil, they have been able to put together a consistent team fast enough tbh... coach makes difference tbh...
