I know it's a day late, but I just wanted to wish all the veterans of SpursTalk a Happy Veterans Day. I appreciate your service and sacrifice. Also want to give special thanks to family of veterans. A veteran's sacrifice is most often felt and shared by their spouse, kids, parents, etc. God bless you all.

I was lucky to be in with a war going on, I got to see places.

Imagine standing on a mountain top (a tram took us up) over looking the lights of Hong Kong and across the bay Kowloon with a tall Chinese chick with a tattoo of a blue butterfly over her right or was it left breast. You are 19 years old.

I only stepped foot on Viet Nam soil once and it was in Danang. My time was up and I had to be shipped home. I'd be...

there I caught a C-5 cargo carrier to Kobe Japan
from Kobe on another C-5 to Luzon Phillipines where I caught a jet to Hawaii. There I caught a 747 to San Francisco. Met a gorgeous girl from Portland Oregon on the flight, got her number, why I never called...????

Keep in mind nobody was real worried about me getting anywhere, so I had to wait and wait at each stop, it took me three weeks to get home. I walked into my parents house on Christmas morning 1972, I took a bus from San Francisco to Fresno, a couple buddies met me there and gave me my ride to Visalia. Yep...SURPRISE, MERRY CHRISTMAS~~~~~

Seeing places like Hong Kong, Kowloon, Tokyo, Bangkok, Singapore, Taipei, the Phillipines was pretty cool. As was getting to know guys from all over the country, still have friends from my Navy days.

There is nothing more beautiful than sunsets out on the ocean, and nothing more scarey than a storm out at sea.

A gang of us sitting at a table at the Red Noodle on Wikiki drinking (Singapore Sling) when the house band started playing....



A few weeks later I'd hear it (perfect tune for that time in my life) on the radio, so I'm thinking...."wow, they recorded it".......hahaha~~~~ I'd figure it out.

I'm hanging over the side painting when a buddy tunes the radio.....................





The day before I left the USS Horne we were all back on the fantail getting a buzz, one of the songs.
