I believe this. He has an extra gear we haven't seen it. But why waste it in the regular season?

Start Dedmon and bring Pau off the bench! Parker is fine as long as they have a rim protector in there, which Pau definitely is not.
I don't think y'all get it, the offense was an abortion against the Magic/Bucks when Porker was on the floor.

He has the WORST offensive rating among the starters by a MILE: http://www.basketball-reference.com/...l#per_poss::28

And defensively where does both Tony and Pau rank??? At this time, we don't need Parker's offense that much, but Pau's defense has been awful!

Gasol is a vital cog in the new first-half "rope-a-dope" strategy employed by the Spurs. After the bench makes their appearance a time or two, the Spurs come out of their cocoon along the ropes and start fighting.

The biggest issue I have with Gasol is that his offensive output doesn't make up for his lack of defense.

If Dedmon is going to start then Patty has to start since Kawhi can't drive & LMA can't postup w/ TWO non-shooters on the floor. Pau should be fine in a Kanter role & Porker is better off having a secondary playmaker like Manu rather than a spotup shooter like Danny at this point of his career.

We also wouldn't have to see those tragic post-feeds Danny tries to execute w/ LMA that eventually turn into a tragic two-man game since Patty can do that job unlike a non-shooter like Porker. Danny would just have to camp in the strongside corner like Bowen while Kawhi acts like a release valve.

Pop isn't going to bring Porker/Pau off the bench but hopefully he plays those line-ups for the majority of the game after their ceremonial start in the 1st & 3rd quarter.

I don't see Pop benching Parker, but I could see him benching Pau. Especially if Dedmon continues to play the way he is on the defensive end.

I don't know if ya know this but Pau is the only one that keeps actively keeping the ball in Kawhi's hand more than anyone else on the team. He might not be scoring much, but he is helping Kawhi score.

Stubborn Pop doesn't change line-ups during the regular season, Blair was starting over ter in 2012.

Pau has been trained by Kirby to defer to Alphas.

Which is a good thing. We get to see aggressive Kawhi.

It seems that someone on Pau's camp is doing the job getting favorable narrative and hiding his weakness on D...Hilarious.

He has changed starting lineups in the past. It doesn't happen often but if it were to happen I could see it being Dedmon for Pau due to Pop's love of defense. Probably won't happen, but I can hope.

Danny Green needs a good benching, tbh. Start Juice for a couple of games

Maybe in the playoffs but I don't see him benching Pau in the regular season when he didn't want to bench Blair despite the defense being mediocre even w/ Timmay.

Very true, but I don't remember Splitter playing as well as Dedmon is that year. And they had Timmy still so perhaps Pop didn't feel like he needed another defensive big??

I don't know. Just trying to give myself hope I guess. I am sure something drastic would have to happen for Pop to make that change.

Danny is a low-energy player that's not suited for a bench role, Juice is the energizer bunny & his open-court game would suffer if he had to play a drag-out half-court offense w/ the Pau/LMA frontline.

If the team had a starting PG we wouldn't be having this discussion....

Definitely promoting Pau out of all of the new additions... but since he was the big FA acquisition, I guess it makes sense.
It was still a good promotional video. The part about empathy with each other stood out to me. It's my favorite Pop philosophy that guys have to enjoy each other's success, company and encourage each other.

I am not sure if it's just Gasol the reason for the poor starts.

Here is what Pop said after the loss at Chicago:

"We played 24 minutes again, as we have for about the last 10 games," Popovich said. "We go through the motions in the first half. I think we shot one free throw in the first half. We shot four or so the second half. But we played harder in the second half. I don't know if we played much smarter. Our opponents have outplayed us physically and execution-wise in most first halves for most of the season. So now we pull it together in the second half and played harder and smarter and got it to [a] four[-point deficit].
"That's the disappointing part: We're not a very consistent team, and we haven't learned as a group that the game is 48 minutes. We also have some people playing very poorly. You have to participate in your own recovery. Some players have to play better."

    http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/1...-chicago-bulls

He doesn't mention any names but it's obvious he thinks there are guys who just flat out need to play better and help their own case.

Sure. But the lack of chemistry between some players makes me think about if these guys really want to play together, if they really enjoy other's success.

Obviously, having 7 new players on the team doesn't help to the team chemistry early in the season, but I guess that also happens when they sign guys who didn't grow up as players in Spurs culture and have been the opposite in their careers, like something related to the 'diva at ude'.

Since this thread is about Gasol, he repeatedly complained about his few shots, how hard he has to work to get them, praising rival's guards who give his big men good looks...

When we heard Tim or Kawhi throwing their teammates under the bus in public?

I mean, Tim, Parker and Manu, the Big 3 lived all their careers in a sense of Spurs environment...That was a huge part on their success.

Sadly they can't repeat it anymore.
