@HPbasketball
May have found a Kawhi def rating explanation.
Look at the first four def ratings and who’s NOT on court, bottom 4 and who IS.
Jesus Gomez

@HPbasketball Interesting. The opponents' shot chart with Manu and Kawhi on the court is crazy. I'll have to watch some video.

Yeah manu despite the hustle and effort is just way too old now.
i take it that the answer is david lee, which is exactly what i expected tbh
Manu is not on the bottom 4... Aldridge is...
OP with the misleading thread le goods
I've seen enough games this year to understand that Manu is not the problem.
His worst season so far of his career.. but he's 39... it's on Pop to sit him if he's not helping.
Damm most thought he should have went to philly for 14 million
Far from the problem lol. But some will say what they want for whatever reason.
1 thing about Manu, if his shot isn't falling, or he's turning the ball over, he does other things. He competes, and plays with energy. Other guys don't always do the same, including the young guys on the bench.
Duncan is old and he was still playing at a high level in the NBA.....

Player/coach
We need him. Tim is gone.
No he hasnt. He's a guy who's older and will have good night's and bad nights.
Heck, it's the same thing with some of our young guys too.
Probably the most sane opinion in this madness.
This was an easy opponent, but it still is a good sign to see guys playing well that the team depends on, to have a bounce back game.
Agreed. It's good they didn't lay an egg like the Mavs game.
It's impossible for everyone to play well every night. the old heads will show their age some nights, and young guys will show their youth . That's just the reality of it.
Just gotta hope our main guys do enough to compensate
Feels like I'm looking at cherry picked data, tbh. The eye test tells me that Manu is still a contributor.
We all will miss Manu when he retires... haters gonna hate.
To be fair man it's Tim Duncan, there is not many like that guy.
I think Manu contributes for what he's asked to do. On defense, he has been a liability for some time. He is getting worse as well. He's also nearly 40, so im sure he takes games off to add to the fact that basketball players have good and bad nights. He can be an x-factor still with his ability to go off from 3.
His minutes should be limited though, as there is a noticeable approach by opposing teams to zero in on him on the defensive side. This of course should be expected on anyone opposite of Kawhi, but that just mean whoever is left opposite needs to be manageable. Simmons plays quite a bit already. Kyle would be the other filler, but he is even worse on team defense than Manu. It's basically a walk in the park to collapse the entire defense with kyle on the perimeter. I'm not sure where else you go for those extra minutes, our PGs are small enough as it is, there arn't many other options.
Hopefully he just stays healthy and gives us a good showing down the stretch. Come playoff time, I'm sure Kawhi will be playing near 40+ minutes the way he's been used this season, which wont leave much bench time either way.
In an ideal world, Tony and Manu would have retired with Tim. In a less than ideal, but still appealing world, Manu and Tim retire together. In reality, Manu has tied our hands and put us in a tough spot. He sucks, but Pop's gotta play him.
Kobe retirement tour-esque
He is having a good season, evendoe his shot is not falling. Averages will likely go up and right now, with his bad shooting he is still a plus when he is on court.
The defensive rating is not to be taken lightly, but should not be considered without the off rating, as a player may be great for defense but if the team also is not scoring they cannot take advantage of such defense.
Therefore NetRtg is the best and Manu is middle of the pack in that stat.
The Spurs have players with even worse net ratings.
Elite poster right here
Guys like Manu are locker room leaders and can still produce in limited minutes. Spurs are one of the 5 best teams in the league. The whining over Parker and Manu is misguided. Our team is not broke and on pace for yet another 50 win season. But keep talking like we are the Kings or the Nets.
