Pistons had a 23-point blowout over the Heat tonight. Boban got 3 minutes, and went 0-3 with 1 board. I knew he wasn't going to be a starter this year, but damn I thought he was going to be better than that.

Good thing they gave Manu all that money, and couldn't afford him.

Previous poster mentioned how perhaps Detroit thought San Antonio would match and thus were just price driving and had no real intention of signing Boban. Like maybe the 76ers did with GNob.

Good potential hunch, could be spot on.
All this noise about Bobans lack of lateral quickness. I aint buying it. Plenty of other NBA bigs who are getting minutes who are just as slow on the laterals.

Still can't believe what was SVG doing throwing that kind of money at essentially a 4th-5th mop-up big

Why would Detroit and SVG care to drive the price up for the Spurs? It's far more likely they anticipate losing Baynes next summer and expect Boban to be the back-up for the following two seasons, in which case his price tag is about right. They'll have to pay KCP too and might get dangerously close to the tax next season.

I was taking glance at his stat box, and it is depressing really: 2 PPG/1.7 RPG on 29% shooting in 5 MPG and bunch of DNP-CDs..

It is looking like a massive overpay by SVG..Boban was perfect in one role: 5th mop-up big for a contender that gets up by +20 pts on most opponents in the regular season..

Glad PATFO weren't tempted by his few flashes..Spurs have nailed all their Big men moves last summer, tbh (having a team instead of player option on Gasol would have made it perfect)..

They can trade Gasol if he signs when they didn't want him too. They still have the leverage. Player option just let's them leave if they want.

He'd be doing much better here where there's a heavily ingrained system and he'd already have chemistry developed with the team (at least with the Spurs' guards). We've seen what he can do given minutes here and they certainly weren't all garbage time minutes. However, I still wouldn't want him for $6mil/year especially if it cost the Spurs Dedmon or Lee.

Pop gets the most out of new or unheralded players. There are exceptions (Ian M) but it is amazing how many guys best years are as Spurs (Boban, Roger Mason, Gary Neal, Dejuan Blair, Tiago Splitter, Danny Green) who just crash other places. The opposite side is integrations of established guys like Richard Jefferson and to a much lesser degree LMA haven't always been smooth. If you have limited talent Pop will get the most out of it, but if you have a lot of talent it may not always be maximized at least statistically as a Spur. (which does not bode well for Kyle)

Even if that's true, he'll be back in Europe with $21 Million, a smokin' little wife, and a tank of Budweiser. How much good luck does one man need?

All true (though they got far better beer than Bud in Europe).

We should conclude a lot from Bobans playing in 10 Detroit games this year for a whopping 50 minutes total. 5 min per game played in. Not counting all the DNP that HOF coach Stan Van has been utilizing him in.

Salad dressing in your kool-aid, not so good, but salad dressing on your salad, now that is good. Maybe Boban is not being used properly.

Since there's no ball being played tonight, I thought I'd dredge up some trivia. Boban finally had a Boban-esque game a few nights ago. He put up 6 points, 2 boards, 2 blocks, and a steal in 7:08. Beast-mode stats.

Of course, all of that was in garbage time at the very end of a 113-82 blowout loss to the Bulls. Poor Boban.

He can do a lot of the things Gasol does. In a world where Dedmon starts, Boban is the backup C and that leftover money goes to a better back court, I still think the Spurs could be better. They'd better balanced for sure.

I agree. Boban showed he could play but you as a teammate had to go to him often. He would eventually get so much attention in the paint that it would leave others to get easy shots as Bobans man would never help off him. He's a kind of niche player in that he had to be played to absolutely destroy benches and you had to go to him often. Kind of sad for him bc Pistons probably don't ha e chemistry with him or know how to play around what he can do.
