When the main shareholder in one of the very largest corporations in the world benefits from a massive contract with the CIA on the one hand, and that same billionaire owns the Washington Post on the other hand, there are serious problems. The Post is unquestionably the political paper of record in the United States, and how it covers governance sets the agenda for the balance of the news media. Citizens need to know about this conflict of interest in the columns of the Post itself.

If some official enemy of the United States had a comparable situation—say the owner of the dominant newspaper in Caracas was getting $600 million in secretive contracts from the Maduro government—the Post itself would lead the howling chorus impaling that newspaper and that government for making a mockery of a free press. It is time for the Post to take a dose of its own medicine.”

This is exactly why the media in the US is far better than anywhere else. There is a real desire to self patrol. There is a real desire for more accurate information. It does sell, you just have to wade through all the crap boots and SA put up.

I hope The Donald gets this because this same media is gonna come after him with even more gusto if he does not come clean with the business ties. He really needs to release those tax returns at some point and get this all behind him so he can work on being president.

No. NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES [media is gonna come after him]. He knows this. Bannon knows this. It's why Media wants him to default on this Russian election thingy. If he says what EVERYONE else is saying it will be a gotcha moment. "Finally, Donald Trump admits that without Russian interference he would not be POTUS." No. Zip your lip and keep going thru the vote Monday. That's a Media drop dead date. Unfortunately they'll be another drop dead date (on a myriad of fires), then another, and another, on & on. Trump knew this, anyone with 1/2 brain knows this. Media is going to piss in his steak dinner every time he sits down with that plate.

I got two pieces of advice for this man:::

    1. Don't ever give in and stop.
    &
    2. Put that vest on every time you step out that door.

Welcome to the presidency and changing the facts before you enter office.

With that said, he will be pestered MUCH MORE if he does not come clean. The editor of the NY times has already stated he thinks Trump is incredibly open to the press otherwise which will be very helpful for him in trying to run the country if he comes clean with business ties. He must get this out of the way.

This is a MAJOR sticking point. And a theme that got him elected, drain the swamp of coziness between business and Washington. Think for a second and get the off Netflix.

They're going to pester him till he goes into the grave, pg. That was part of the deal at 270. Sure, Bannon and the kids are jake with it, because the children don't know any better, and Bannon just wants 24/7 vengeance. I think about now that knot that tightened in Melania's stomach when he first came to her with his latest toy is starting to tighten up in Trump's tummy.

Media is waiting on Donald. So probably is someone that Melania insists that he done that vest for every morning she closes the front door after him.

Every MSM agency is corrupt, biased, full of . This is nothing new. The illusion of free press is what's at stake, not the free press itself.

Not everyone is Boots and wishes him to fail.

He has got to get it done. The press could latch onto something else if he came clean with the finances. But it won't mean nearly as much unless it's really ugly.

    Now.

    Before he takes office.

We need to proceed as a country.

The press is the 4 th branch of government. The press makes us strong. You start shutting THE MEDIA down and welcome to . Again, there is money to be made being as accurate as possible. It is to our advantage to have these discussions. It is to our advantage for inaccuracies to be pointed out. It is good the Washington Post has been called out. It will make them better, or not worth reading to find a few gems in a pile of trash.

No, I wouldn't with the money if I were him. It will never be enough in Media's sight,,,EVER. So, just let the children handle it and if that ain't good enough stand the consequences, no matter what they are. But, do not divest, nor, put it into a blind trust. You worked too ing hard to walk away from it when there is nary need. I trust him at his word. That's good enough for me.

How dare a businessman run for political office! If he wants to be in politics he should give up everything he worked for all his life!...even better, don't run and let the professional politicians who have never built anything run the country. Businessmen should know their place!

This is a very poor attempt at a deflection.

    Release the fkn tax returns.
Do it now so it does not get really ugly when he takes office.

This is too much to ask... Unbelievable. Just do it.

As CC suggests, DJT is far too special to be subjected to close scrutiny of his business affairs and anyway, how dare we?

How DJT chooses to enlarge his estate while in office is his own personal business.

Disclosing his taxes would only provide fodder for the odious 4th estate to discredit him. Better to brazen it out and keep the su ions of the hoi polloi unverifiable.

That ship sailed. DJT has been elected.

Having cast aside norms of transparency already, DJT is beyond responsibility for his conflicts of interest. It would be inexpedient and not a little foolish to give that up now.

Such is the low esteem Americans have of government, he'll be applauded and admired for using it to enrich himself.

    Are you fckn kidding?

Do you understand that presidents have to be above board with "gifts" from foreign governments?

This was part of Hillary's problem with the Clinton foundation.
You don't even know your own persuasion's line of reasoning.

Incredibly disingenuous for half of the country to pretend this doesn't matter anymore.

If HRC or Obama had snubbed this long standing norm, you would have dragged your Tea Party costumes right back out of the attic and marched all the way to DC.

It's okay to be glad Trump won and still expect him to be transparent. I don't know why you all seem to want your President to be sheltered from standard practice. What are you afraid of? Disappointment?

You're treating him like the downs kid everyone wants to see score a touchdown on the last play of a meaningless game. He's not. He's the ing President. Stop babying the big pussy and raise your expectations.

So you don't mind presidents receiving payoffs from businesses and foreign governments. That's good to know.

It has everything to do with it ya damn cabbage brain. It's one of many tools we have for scrutinizing our leaders. It turns out to be super important in accessing financial information.

    What do you not get?
