Unfortunately, College Football is better than the Spurs tonight... Simmons isn't exactly the least experienced, although the most journeyed, IMHO. He played at UH and spent two seasons with Austin. Incidentally, he also payed JUCO ball in Midland, Texas. Back in the day, they won a JUCO National Championship with three great guards: Spud Webb, Mookie Blaylock and (actually the best JUCO player of the 3) Ricky Grace. You probably know Spud and Mookie...
Youre reaching very hard if you think Simmons has had legitimate experience and coaching. Playing a lot of ball does not equate to good experience, if anything it's worse to play a lot and not have good teaching, as you pick up bad habits you have to be taught against. As well, those bad habits are reinforced against inferior compe ion, and you have to learn how to play ball all over again against players with the same ability and skill as you.

Which explains Simmons HORRIBLE TO rate, which still shows its head at times. He has never handled the ball at a high level, or much of anything else, which was clear to see in his first year.

He doesn't look any different than last season, tbh, people overreacted to a hot game vs. a Warriors team that can't defend anybody..

A nice energy player that will have stretches of good basketball..I still support having him in the rotation, though, don't mind him getting 10 MPG..the more he plays, the worse he gets, though, as we saw last season..

I mentioned it during the summer league, in that he didn't look a whole lot different from last season. His handles do look better though, and that's a good play, IMO.

As I said after the Dubs game, the name of the game for him, Kyle and even Patty, is consistency. They need to bring it every night, and the Spurs need them to bring it every night.

If only he would take the open shots within the flow of the offense.

I'm glad a never gave up on him. I, like most posters here was so close to giving up on him during the preseason/start of the season, but I just wasn't ready to do it. He's playing well. I like his tenacity on defense. His offense still needs work, can get better there for sure - especially on not passing up open shots, but at least he's putting in the effort on defense, and that gets on my good side. It still drives me crazy on offense when he passes up open shots, but at least he's trying to bring it on the defensive end consistently. I thought he was awesome in the second half of last game against Phoenix defensively after having an average first half. His ball handling seems to have improved a bit too.

What do you mean? Do you think that he will get benched when the games start to matter more?

I don't know..it appeared that he was a lock for the rotation, last year, until Pop permanently benched him for Anderson somewhere around late February IIRC..

I wouldn't pencil him in, yet, despite performing much better than Anderson, so far..

Alright, I hope not, because I believe he's improving steadily, and if he gets the court time, I think he can be a pretty decent bench player. He's got to learn to take those open shots though. I hear he has really been working on his shooting quite a bit. If that's the case, he's gotta be more confident in taking those open shots.

    He's coming into his own.

He's letting it fly from 3 in rhythm and knocking them down, instead of turning them down and driving into congested areas of the court.

If he can sustain this level of play and keep building on his game, it will be huge for the ceiling of this team. Spurs desperately need consistency from the 4th wing spot.

Good game by him.... He was huge in coming back into the game. I liked the 3s and his energy is impactful.... he started off shooting but was resilient and kept his aggression. I liked it.

He has such potential, but it's like he plays scared or overly anxious most nights.

    Got settle down. Get consistent.

I am starting to believe in him... truth be told they don't need that nightly. He started off with his shot but kept aggressive.. he's not going to have that amount of shots on the regular and he's streaky with his jumper but he's capable of explosions of that nature. I have faith the bench is better than last season.. I think Simms will be impactful.

And I stated already his $ will really be decided in the postseason. A lot of guys in contract seasons in the team and though he's restricted he will earn himself a lot if he maintains good play like that in the playoffs.

Love this guys story, and really like the fact that four players on the current team cut their teeth in the D-league, or spent significant time there after being drafted, and are now solid contributors. Green, Simms, DD, and Kyle.

Simmons is all about pressure, pressure, pressure. He's not waiting for the game to come to him, or taking what the defense gives. When he subs into the game, you know he's coming at you. Whether he pulls it off or not, he's never reacting to what the other team is doing - he's trying to make sure that they are the ones reacting. He doesn't always pull it off (obviously). Sometimes it's not even about his talent level - he's trying that nobody could pull off, outside of a video game. He only had an inch to spare on that dunk. If he had clanked it, people would be screaming about how bad he is.

I like the way he plays. He's pushing his own limits pretty hard most of the time. But I think the game will start to slow down for him, and he'll start to pull off more plays than he blows up. (I think it already has started slowing down for him.) The thing I really like seeing now is when he blows it, but stays in the play and gets a steal/deflection, or gets a run-down block on the other end.
