That GOP plan in the Medicare thread would affect me greatly - instead of half of hubby's SS, I'd get half of whatever the average person gets (I guess they think we're all trophy wives collecting half of CEOs benefits) but I'm for trying to fix it NOW - the earlier the better and less painful.

That hardly fixes it. It just reinforces the lie that there is a "trust fund" that you contribute to fund you and your spouses retirement. You are at the mercy of whatever the government chooses to give you at the time.

Social Security and Medicare withholding are just an additional 16% hidden tax on everyones wages that the government pisses off every year.

It's actually humorous to me that liberals don't consider this to be a regressive tax.

I know it doesn't fix it, but it's a start. I don't know why they're so afraid of making meaningful change. For instance, they only bump up the age 2 years (to 69) in this plan. They should tie it to life expectancy and bump it up at least 7 years - everybody understands that we're living longer.

She worked just as hard as anyone else in her lifetime and contributed her share...they had her "expected" SS return calculated out to the penny when she retired...they just told her they weren't gonna pay her as they had promised because of my income.
