hahaha, you dn't need a 3rd star. you just need guys that play defense and can hit shots. wtf. A person's name, shoe sales, jersey sales, never made a ball go in the basket.
It happened right after Spurs won 2007 finals. When Boston created the PGA (Pierce/Garnett/Allen) trio, it more or less enticed LeBron to create his own big three to compete, and the League's power creep just went into ungodly levels. Lakers with one of the best front lines since Duncan/Robinson and Double Wallace days, Ron Artest doing Dennis Rodman impressions, PLUS prime Kobe. The Miami Heat big three of James/Wade/Bosh. The Thunder trio of Durant/Westbrook/Harden was amazing, too bad they cheap-ed out and destroyed it.
With the exception of magical, revenge filled 2014 season, the league became an arms race to build the most loaded roster. It also ended Spurs dynasty: 3 championships in 5 years with only one real superstar.
And here we are: James/Irving/Love, and Durant/Curry/Green/Thompson, just ridiculous power creep, outside of injuries, other teams seriously have no chance. Previously you only had to compete with teams with one or two stars and role players, the level of talent concentration in today's league is sickening.
Leonard/Aldridge isn't a bad duo by any means, but just can't compete without a third star.

At least we have Laprovittola.
We definitely need a third player but I also think we are deep with alot of untapped potential. I want to see things play out with what weve got.
If Aldridge plays like he's capable... Changes everything.
Aldridge playing like he did last season along with Parker not starting would do the spurs wonders imo
Parker starting isn't the issue. Pau is.
The Spurs whipped the Heatles in 2014. These super teams don't have as long a shelf life as you think. They're important parts include great role players and the Warriors lost a lot of theirs. You have to keep replenishing them. The Warriors got lucky with contracts that us about to cine to an end (I've king expected Klay to get traded.) LeBron is passing his peak and already that team has little depth.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the GSW window close in faster than expected.
You got that right. LeBron predicted what, 7-8 Championships when he came to Miami. They got two, and were one bricked FT away from only getting one.
Talent, chemistry, and luck. You need all three. It's hard to keep all of your talented players, which changes the chemistry. And luck? How many seasons have been killed by a single injury?
GS also benefited from an ideal salary cap raise this off season. That won't happen every summer.
They won't be able to afford Klay. Or at least it will be the smart thing to trade him. Then they're not terribly different than they were the last two years and their role players will have been gutted.
You're blind if you don't acknowledge he is basically a non factor at best and seemingly a detriment most of the time in the golden era of PGs. Gasol should be benched for Dedmon as well
Nah. Sometimes sure. But he is the best ATM to get guys solid looks, especially LMA with the pick and Pop.
He is who he is. Some nights good, others not so good. But his role and what he's asked to do is fine with the starters. And once Dedmon starts the defensive issues will be better masked as well
That's great for 82 games. When rotations shorten up in the playoffs with days in between to rest the Spurs will have a hard time stacking up against the super teams.
While i agree on the OP´s comment, if the team is blessed with no injuries come playoff time. We have enough roster to compete. And if our team clicks in, we can win against any super team.
With all our flaws, we also have many merits.

Gasol says o.....
Manu says o...
Australia says o.....
Well, if Pop coaches right, could be
Kiwi/LMA/Dedmon

Delly/Antetokounmpro/Delly/Parker/Delly. Big 5
Get the out with that "third star" bull . You need favorable matchups. Good defenders at the right positions and mismatches on O. Spurs have the size and versatility to compete with anyone. take tbqh.
Dedmon is a scrub, bro.
That we have Kawhi is a miracle and dont want to mess it up by supposedly having to have a third guy this year. We're doing well right now.
Agree to an extent but if you include the Durant / Chuckbrook / Beard thunder, then the Duncan / Parker / Manu heyday is guilty as well.
Oh, okay Mr Boban
Thunders had 3 stars and never ringed. Miami got rolled by Dirk Nowitzki by himself and 40 year old Duncan. Celtics basically were frauds and only won one. LeBron has only won a few even though he has played in the tiest conference his whole life (and one of those was gifted by Ray Allen). Dubs will choke per usual. Spurs have a shot if they learn to play some defense and play up to their potential offensively.
The rest of the league besides the Spurs and Clips have no shot though.
