Pair charged in explosive device at elementary school; planned to shoot cops, start race war
A convicted felon who claims he wanted to shoot cops is behind bars in connection with the explosives device planted outside of a Trussville elementary school.
Authorities today announced state charges against 35-year-old Zachary Edwards and 34-year-old Raphel Dilligard, both of eastern Birmingham. They are charged with possession of a hoax destructive device, rendering false alarm and making terrorist threats, said Trussville police Capt. Jeff Bridges.

A police officer has undergone potentially lifesaving surgery after he was shot in the head while on duty near a college in downtown Detroit.
Collin Rose, 29, was shot just a few blocks from Wayne State University about 6.45pm on Tuesday, and was then rushed to the Detroit Receiving Hospital for surgery.
He is now listed as being in a critical, but stable, condition and is recovering with his family. Rose has been with the force for about five years.
The shooting follows four recent incidents in which law enforcement officers were shot.
The shootings of police officers in Texas and Missouri on Sunday were the latest in what law enforcement officials say is an alarming e in ambush-style attacks.

Sources describe suspect in shooting death of RTD officer as 'radical Muslim'
DENVER -- The man suspected of shooting and killing a uniformed RTD contract security officer in Lower Downtown late Tuesday night has been described as a radical Muslim, law enforcement sources said Wednesday.
The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Joshua mings.
Two sources said investigators found jihadist materials in mings' backpack and those materials are being investigated.
Scott Von Lanken, 56, was shot and killed, the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner confirmed.
The shooting happened about 11 p.m. at 16th and Wynkoop streets on Union Station Plaza, one block from Union Station, police said.

Le Louvre terror attack: Man shouting 'Allahu akbar' shot after trying to kill French soldier with machete
A suspected terrorist has attempted to attack a French soldier with a machete near Paris' famed Le Louvre art gallery.
Yves Lefebvre, a police union official, said the man launched his attack when four soldiers guarding the area told him he could not enter the Carrousel du Louvre shopping centre with his bags.
"That's when he got the knife out and that's when he tried to stab the soldier," he added.
Michel Cadot, the head of Paris police, said the man was shouting "Allahu akbar" and injured the soldier's scalp before a second troop opened fire.
"We are dealing with an attack from an individual who was clearly aggressive and represented a direct threat, and whose comments lead us to believe that he wished to carry out a terrorist incident," Mr Cadot told reporters.

Fresno shooting spree: 3 people killed, suspect who yelled 'Allahu Akbar,' says he 'hates white people' in custody
Three people were killed after a man went on a shooting spree in downtown Fresno, California on Tuesday while shouting "God is great" in Arabic before he was tackled and taken into custody, police said.
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said officers took Kori Ali Muhammad, 39, into custody in connection to the shootings. Dyer said Muhammad went by the nickname "Black Jesus" and shouted "Allahu Akbar" as police tackled him to the ground.
Dyer said at a news conference Muhammad told police that he hates white people, and has made posts against white people and the government on his Facebook page. All of the victims of the shooting rampage on Tuesday were white men, according to police.
