Obama was smart like a fox when he got Obamacare passed. The camels nose is under the tent and it's not coming out. he got pre-existing conditions covered and government subsidized insurance for the lower income population. Both are "feel good" popular proposals that even Trump is afraid to mess with. Bottom line, you can't have those proposals without mandating insurance coverage for everyone and having those that pay for their own insurance pay more to cover the new insured that can't pay for their own coverage. The Republicans are now in the trap of "replacing" Obamacare. They can't just take away the insurance from the 18 million that are now getting free insurance without a waterfall of bad publicity when "little susie dies of cancer because her parents lost their insurance". Whether little Susy would have died anyway will be totally irrelevant. The politicians know this. The Republicans will push these 18 million to Medicaid and hide the cost or push it to the states and we will inevitably be one step closer to single payer which was Obama's preferred goal to start with and the Republicans will have done it.
