Pretty much. But still good to see the teams 3 point shooting improve when that was a big weakness last season.

A big weakness? They were 2nd in the NBA last season and first in the playoffs.

What's crazier is outside of Simmons (low 30s), Lee and Dedmon (neither has shot a three), every rotation player is at or above the Warriors' team mark this season. Between Green, Mills and Leonard, they've shot 42.7% on nearly 500 attempts (8.2 per 48 mins).

Golden State's three main shooters are all between 39% and 40% with 379, 300 and 196 attempts between Curry, Klay and Durant (875 attempts). Utilization is higher, but in essence they're only getting off 10.3 per 48 mins ... obviously more total attempts as multiple guys are on the floor, albeit not for the same amount of time.

Rest of GS is down significantly. No more Barnes, Rush, Barbosa or Speights and Iggy/Green have fallen off significantly to the low 30s (around what Simmons is shooting). Clark and McCaw are the only other two who've taken a significant number of attempts.

Addition of Durant cannot be understated, but it feels a lot less lethal having less guys who can shoot this year.

It's about attempts. Last year they were near the bottom. Need more looks to make the weapon optimal.

26th last season in attempts, 29th this season. Although 3pt attempts have increased significantly for every team this season.

    I hadn't realized until I looked here:
    http://www.basketball-reference.com/...NBA_stats.html
how much this is true, and that it's a continuation of a trend. The league's ORtg is 108.0, second highest in the last 22 years. But FG% and 3P% are about the same and FT/FGA is pretty low. It's the number of 3P attempts that have skyrocketed in the last 5 years.

The 2013 Heat won the le with a 3PAr (percentage of shots taken that are 3s) of 0.285, 5th in the league. That same number would be 22nd this year.

I thought Pop was breaking the mold by going back to the mid-range game (according to the NBA media).

Oh well, the best laid plans . . .

But GS probably took about double the threes while hitting that clip. Much more impressive, tbh.

They don't shoot nearly enough threes. I also Bertrans was more of a gunner. He has the combo of athleticism, height, range, and accuracy that can completely dominate a game if he wanted to.

And really...the NBA needs to do away with the 3 pointer. It's actually an easier shot than a 15 footer for most players.

It worries me that Simmons is so scared of Pop, he won't shoot a wide open three early in the shot clock: http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursna...ewayne-dedmon/

He has been MUCH better the past 4-5 games. And he's hitting them. Needs to keep it up I think he can be a 38% shooter or so, which would allow him to be a very poor man's manu for our 2nd unit. If he can do that, I say we resign him next year if the price is fair

With a league average around 36%, I'd even be happy with him at that level. That's the equivalent of 54% eFG% which is a full three ticks above the league average. Where he's currently struggling is on 2's, and his FT rate is down vs. last year, although still well above the league average. League average 3 pt + well above average in getting to the line is fine with me.

GSW was on pace to have the most wins ever in a single season, until a couple of weeks before the end of the season. They were on pace to win the Championship, until the last 3 games of the Finals.

And I'd like it a LOT better if the Spurs were on pace to have the best defense ever.

I'd prefer every other (made) shot behind the line to be worth 2, so it averages out to 2.5. Have a green light next to the shot clock, when the light is off every FG is worth 2, when you make a shot behind the arc the light turns on and shots behind the arc are worth 3. Making a 3 turns the light off again.
