Wow. I think Avante and SuperCam have legit compe ion now for the worst football take of the year.
It adds absolutely nothing to the game.

The NFL has become dull and predictable enough nowadays without getting rid of things like onside kicks that can help make comebacks happen, missed FGs/XPs that keep games interesting, and big kickoff/punt returns that add a jolt of excitement to games. Plus, I'm pretty sure the players' and coaches' unions would have an issue with basically getting rid of special teams.

Get rid of the kicking game and the sport becomes even more quarterback-dependent than it already is.
I think it's be more exciting. Fourth and 3 on the opponent's 45 now becomes a possible time to go for it. Knowing that the other team can't just make 20 yards and kick an FG. Sure a returned kickoff is exciting but it's pretty rare. I'd rather see the excitement of 4th down plays where the ball is turned over if they don't make it. I wouldn't even care if they start the ball at the 50 for every possession and there are no punts. You have to get first down's or you lose the ball. As to onside kicks, recovery % is also very rare. Just figure out what that % is and have the kicking team spin a wheel based on that proportionate.

So if you want to go that route, why even continue to make it a game where field position actually matters? Why not just make it like a backyard game of thanksgiving football where each team takes turns starting at the same spot and tries to score
Yeah...I'm OK with that. Put it at the 50. Or cut the field in half and everyone starts on their goalline. Or just drop the ball out of the sky at the 50 after each score and see who gets it and where it ends up.

then you wouldn't even need 100 yards

50 will do. more seats, a posh lounging area, maybe a spa or 2.

That's a good point but it pretty much s all the new billion dollar stadiums that are set up for 100 yards. Maybe it could be different for each venue. Like how baseball parks have different dimensions. It's up to the team how they want to build it. As long as it's within certain parameters. You might have a 100 x 50 field in Dallas and in Miami, a 50 x 50.

The type of fans who about the kicking game won't be happy until every game turns into the NFL Quarterback Challenge.

I hadn't given it much thought. I guess try it for a season and then see if I like it.

wouldn't it be safer if they didn't wear helmets or pads?

no way they would tackle the same. then no more injuries.

Of course you enjoy field goals. You're light 3 without them.

great logic, I'm sure the owners would go for that....."Let's potentially lose tons of money and piss off a bunch of fans by turning the NFL into a skills challenge for one full season just to see how it works!"

This might be hard for narcissistic cowboy fans to understand, but the rest of the NFL/its fans don't see the field goal as some big problem that it'd be worth it to sacrifice a season to address just because the Cowboys lost on one yesterday.

Take away all kicking scores and the Cowboys lose 24-20 yesterday

Take away only field goals and they lose 28-22 kicking is what kept them in the game.

The loss has nothing to do with my at ude about the kicking game. Maybe just try it for one season in one division in each conference. Play by the home team's rules

Not really. Instead of kicking field goals, they would have gone for touchdowns and probably won the game.

Why would there be any reason to "try it" at all when the consensus among NFL teams and fans is that football is better with a kicking game? Is the expectation that the NFL experiment with every re ed idea that cowboys fans come up with?
