The release of classified do ents by Snowden showed a few things. It showed that the federal government wants to know every single aspect of every life it can monitor, to use advanced metrics and tracking to predict behavior and forecast resource needs based on that. What the federal government is doing is nothing new. Society has long lived under the guise of an overbearing protector who knows all, sees all and judges even our thoughts. We've not only lived under that principle, but we've insisted on doing so. The fear of not having that all seeing eye, that society might in reality, have no corporeal punishment for immoral and illegal acts if not caught by humans, supercedes the need for privacy and "freedom". You see it in calls for more monitoring, more data collection, more social networking websites and even your TV wants your personal information and your viewing tendencies.
Even atheists cannot escape this. We don't have a god, but we insist on an overlord because we are either too lazy or too fearful to accept real freedom.
That's the reality though, and has little to do with the make believe adults partake in when they talk about gods and supernatural .
