What if D-Will gets claimed by some other team?

I mean, how's it his decision?

    This isn't 2010. He sucks
For a back up PG, he's more than fine for them.

If they waive DWill it's his choice. If they buy him out he goes to waivers.

Why would SA want Bogut and not try to trade for the other bigs then that were available cheaply?

What if Dedmon and/or Lee leave this summer? Wouldn't it be good to have some insurance? Bogut would be solid off the bench. Also, Dedmon has been great this season, but we really don't know how that would translate to the playoffs.

I think people are reading too much into the Spurs' interest in Bogut. They obviously don't have a rotation spot to offer, so what this probably is, is due diligence. He's obviously significantly better than Anthony, so they'll likely reach out just for the of it, but they have to know he ends up with the Celtics or Cavaliers.

Did some digging in the CBA FAQ...

If D-Will gets claimed, the other team has to pay him his current salary.
What was bugging me was, why doesn't, say Denver, claim him and mess up Cavs plan. Now I know. Nobody wants to waste that kind of money.

Also, the waiver process occurs after both waive or buyout phase.

If Bogut and Williams get bought out they will probably both sign vet min deals with Cleveland. It's Cuban's way of sticking it to the Warriors.

Spurs can only offer the vet min..
Houston can offer 3 or 4 mill per yr for Bogut.

sign deron. he's old but he's always had better court vision than tony, is a much more natural pg.

really wouldn't be surprised if he did better than what tony "does" for this team.

Can someone refresh us on how contracts off waivers work? Is it always the team with most money that wins the claim? Can a team offer multiple years, or just the length of the remaining years of the players current contract?

The player stays "on waivers" for 48 hours (including weekends and holidays), during which time other teams may claim the player and assume his contract. If no team has claimed the player before the end of the waiver period (which is always 5:00 PM Eastern Time), he "clears waivers." The player's contract is terminated and he becomes a free agent. The only way to terminate a contract early (other than with an ETO -- see question number 59) is through the waiver process.1

A team can claim a player on waivers only if one of the following is true:

The team is far enough under the salary cap to fit the player's entire salary.
The team has a Disabled Player exception for at least the player's salary (see question number 25), and the player is on the last season of his contract.
The team has a trade exception for at least the player's salary (see question number 85).
The player has a minimum salary contract (one or two seasons at the minimum salary, with no bonuses of any kind).

If a team makes a successful waiver claim, it acquires the player and his existing contract, and pays the remainder of his salary -- the waiving team is relieved of all responsibility for the player. There is a fee of $1,000, payable to the league office, for claiming a player on waivers. If more than one team tries to claim a player on waivers, the team with the worst record gets him.

Especially after just signing Anthony, unless they could just waive him?

I feel like this Bogut rumor is like the Varejao one last year before we picked up Kevin Martin.

Doubt Bogut would be interested in GS since they can't resign him next season for more than vet min.
