Why did Obama do this, just before leaving office?

Trump is having a total meltdown. He looks panicked and apparently he's not sleeping. He knows they're on to him and with every day that passes they get closer.

Jaws Drop As Malcolm Nance Tells AM Joy Trump Is Acting Like He Knows He’s Caught
intelligence and counterterrorism expert Malcolm Nance said,
“If I can just touch for a moment, Joy, on the question of wiretapping. I’ve been involved in a lot of very advanced collection of operations in my world.
I have no idea what Donald Trump is talking about with wiretapping.
We do not even do that the way he probably thinks from The Sopranos where we’re actually running a wire and putting bugs into his office.
You know this is very dangerous because the people who would be tasked in Justice.
If there are any questions coming from the White House starting today, or anytime in the foreseeable future on how they actually do collections, it means
they’re preparing for a cover-up, because they want to know how they’re actually getting this information.
This is what happens when a target starts getting buggy because he knows that he’s caught.”
There was no need for Trump to preemptively launch a discrediting attack by claiming that Obama wiretapped him unless he knows what’s coming out soon.
Trump is trying to explain away what it is about to revealed before it becomes public.
The Obama wiretapped me excuse is a partisan political ploy that is intended to keep Republicans rallied around him no matter what information comes to light.
Donald Trump isn’t rambling to distract.
He is trying to get out ahead of damaging information to save his presidency.
In other words, Trump knows he’s caught, and the Saturday morning tweets were his first attempt at damage control.

Former Obama Adviser Humiliates Trump By Explaining That Presidents Can’t Order Wiretaps
After Donald Trump had accused President Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower before the election, former Obama Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes told Trump that it is because of people like him that presidents don't have the power to order wiretaps

No President can order a wiretap.
Those restrictions were put in place to protect citizens from people like you.

‘Outright personality breakdown in public view’: Internet blasts Trump for ‘tapped phones’ Twitter meltdown
President Donald Trump’s explosive series of tweets Saturday morning, accusing ex-President Barack Obama of having the phones at Trump Tower “tapped” prior to the election, had Twitter abuzz with concerns about his state of mind — among other things.
Early Saturday morning Trump made the startling accusations, possibly after being alerted to a Breitbart article suggesting former President Obama was conducting a “silent coup” against his administration.
Others suggested that Trump is collapsing into paranoia in public view, with some also pointing out that that media claims that Trump’s speech where he “pivoted” to being more “presidential” are once again moot.

Trump's tweets suggest: 1.) he was personally under investigation for illegally colluding with a hostile power; 2.) he's seriously unstable.

The other possibility is that Trump is flipping into an outright personality breakdown in full public view.

You’re in deep sh*t’: Lawmaker alerts Trump if phones were ‘tapped’ a judge found ‘probable cause of crime’
A California Congressman took to Twitter on Saturday morning to warn President Donald Trump that — if he is correct that his Trump Tower phones were tapped — he is “in deep sh*t.”

Is Our President Bonkers?
Maybe, but this screwball won because he saw something about the American condition that neither Democrats nor Republicans have the nerve to acknowledge.
How did this screwball get to the White House in the first place?
Put aside his odious traits and egomaniacal vanity.
What explains the extraordinary success of this neophyte politician?
The “American Century” is over, Trump declared in so many words (“We never win anymore!”).
The long and mostly successful saga of US triumphalism, in which Washington essentially ran the world, is finally stumbling toward a confused and chaotic conclusion.
Governing elites, though, refuse to accept that reality. It would sound cowardly, unpatriotic.
Never mind the endless succession of losing wars, never mind the gargantuan US debt, meant to keep the world economy from sinking into the full catastrophe of global depression.
We are still the “indispensable nation” celebrated by New York Times columnists and certain learned professors.
Only, Americans at large aren’t buying it any more. Odd as it sounds, ordinary people came to a clear understanding of our national predicament long before the power elites and most of the economics profession,
Trump’s popular appeal is mainly driven by sentimental nostalgia for the American past—a longing for the glory years when the United States liberated the world and created a new global order, when prosperity was shared more widely and rising opportunities were more plentiful at home and abroad.
That saga ended in America a generation ago, and it’s nowhere more evident than in the diverging path of wage and income distribution. The rich have gotten richer and working people are struggling to maintain their status and losing. Many are now competing with $2 a day child labor in Asian sweatshops.
My point is this: Trump (along with Bernie Sanders) deserves credit for forcing this new working-class consciousness into the brain-dead political debate of Washington.

An opening for the Dems? yes, but they rejected Ellison and went with another loser New Democrat/ThirdWay/Clinton tool, not any upgrade from DWS.
No free punches, Yacht. You take a poke at Trump and you're gonna take one back. It don't matter if you're some pasty faced like Pelosi, or, some sore head loser like Hussein Obama. You're gonna get your block knocked off in front of everybody.
You don't like it? Shut the up & sit the down like Pocohontas has done.
I'm not surprised that no one addressed this. Obama basically took an upper decker dump before being evicted.
You thought you was gonna get free swings at this President like you had with Bush 1 & 2. Uh, uh, you're gonna get dragged into the ring and in front of America & you're gonna fight. We'll see who taps out first.
ha, ha.
nobody addresed it when I posted this article contemporaneously, including you.
I don't read every post, tbh.
I guess you didn't have a reason to complain yet.
You give youself too much credit, DS. Evidence that you read at all is close to nil.
Weird. It's as thought the unfettered distribution of private information collected without a warrant was not a concern until it could possibly impact the Republican President.
Trump was said to have been irate at learning of Jeff Session's recusal. He knows Jeff was standing between him and the truth which will bring him down. He senses the end and the Twitter tantrum is just a predictable part of that.
Awe, that's sweet. Bless your little heart.
That is a rather benign sounding headline: "N.S.A. Gets More La ude to Share Intercepted Communications"
What is it you think happened that Trump is so scared of?
The investigation will find out... but it's not good for Trump.
What has the CIA done?
