As of right now the Kingslayer is just getting honorable mention mentions when it comes to the MVP but this is the week that changes everything.

*Monday March the 6th against the Houston Rockets and MVP favorite among discerning talking heads, James Harden. A league leading scorer on the team with the third or fourth best record in the league.

*Wednesday March the 8th against the Kings. I wouldn't be surprised if Pop didn't rest Kiwi this game knowing what lies ahead

*Thursday March the 9th against the OKC Thunderefs and Russell Westbrook. The talking heads that don't say Harden, say Westbrook. Adding his pelt to the wall after Harden will only increase the murmuring.

*Saturday March the 11th against prohibitive championship Golden State Warriors and the two time reigning and defending MVP S.Curry.

IF and the Lord knows this is a tall order, the Spurs can run this 4 game gauntlet the narrative will change. Then the only thing keeping Kiwi from becoming the favorite for MVP will be the Spurs getting HCA. The best player on the best team that isn't stuffed with all-stars. People will go from simply mentioning Kiwi's name as an after thought and will go to trying to find a reason to not vote for him. We are in for a of a week by this time next week, everything could be different. The Spur's "path of rage" to championship #6 begins in earnest next week. Not only will the MVP narrative change but also the who will play for the le talk will as well. I can't wait.

At what point does the Thunderefs losing start to significantly overshadow the historic numbers he is putting up? I just can't see a player on a 7th seeded team winning the MVP.

Did Oscar win the MVP the season that he averaged a triple double? What place did his team finish that season? and how far did they go in the playoffs?

I'm not a numbers guy - numbers alone don't impress me. I'm someone that looks at wins and how a player performs in wins, and also how that player performs against all the best teams regardless of a win or loss - For example, I always want to see Kawhi show he is the best player on the court against the other top teams win or lose. I don't care about players that put up big numbers against crap teams if they don't perform against the best teams. An individual player can't always win against the best teams as you need help from your teammates to win those games, so that is why I like to see how the best player performs against those team regardless of a win or loss.

Also, the only numbers I'd look at for an MVP is the number of wins. I don't think an MVP should ever be given to a player on a team that is on a lower seed. To me, Westbrook is out of the running, but Harden isn't as his team is up there. Harden is the favorite right now, but I rate Kawhi higher because of his defense and offense.

    He finished 3rd: http://www.basketball-reference.com/...ards_1962.html

Wilt was 2nd despite averaging over 50 & 27. For whatever reason Russell got the MVP. When talking about these guys I don't think enough people understand this was a very different league back then, actually by today's standard it wouldn't even be called a league. There were only 9 teams. Cincinatti (Robertson's team) lost (upset) in the W semifinals (1st round back then).

In other news, Stein has named Kawhi the MVP of the 2nd trimester of the regular season: http://www.espn.com/blog/marc-stein/...-steins-ballot

    The tide is turning.

Nice post. A week from now there could be a growing groundswell for KL especially if we've cut the dubs lead to 1. As you say, Pop almost has to rest him against the kings.

Well thanks for the hype. I hope he destroys them

Also, Fastlane's main event was exactly what many people expected.
The only disappointment was that Goldberg didn't hold KO in the air to make the jackhammer look better.

His team finished with a 43-37 record and lost to the Pistons in the 1st round of the playoffs.

LeBron should be MVP, then Kawhi and Harden are next, then Westbrook

Just can't ing respect the fake ass numbers that dude is putting up. Stat whoring assists, going after every rebound to the detriment of his team, and shooting a ty% not only from 3 (why the does he continue to chuck those bricks) but overall.

People will distance themselves from Westbrook as his team continues to suck.

As much as I like Russell's aggressiveness and some aspects of his game, shooting isn't one of them. He is a piss poor shooter and should stop shooting threes altogether. I mentioned this before here during the free agency period, but if I was pitching Kevin Durant, I'd bring a brick into the room and chuck it on the table and start off by telling him that playing with Russell Westbrook, you're nothing more than a brickie's laborer. You have a better shooting percentage, but you get to watch him build a house while he jacks up low percentage shots.

Amen as the drum beat begins Ledlow and Rick Fox were just going who does what Kawhi does. Might need to try and do it without him against the Kings though

As I said, I always look for Kawhi to be the best player on the court against anyone. It's up to his teammates to help him out when playing against the best teams. To beat the best teams, even if you have the best player on the court, you still need your teammates to step up to win those games. They need to do a better job of helping Kawhi out.

    1. They must play better team defense and not have as many lapses leaving 3 point shooters open.

    2. They must hit more of their own open shots consistently.
