Huge 4th quarter for Leonard. 17 in the 4th. Outscored Harden 17 to 4 in the 4th.![]()
The drum beat grows.Sportscenter opens with the Spurs Rox highlights and the talking heads asking could Kawhi actually be MVP? The narrative shift intensifies today on sports talk beginning today as the talking heads scramble to reserve a ticket on the Kawhi train just in case. It is setting up perfectly with two highest profile nationally televised games this week.
The empire strikes back: the Kiwi for MVP movement is getting some pushback from talking heads over at ESPN not quite ready to admit they were wrong and give up the song they have been singing all season. Not a problem however it was always going to take more than one game to turn the narrative it will take this entire week.

Day two over all the talk shows talking Kawhi for MVP, full throated support from Beadle on sports nation and the jump. Also tonight Westbrook scores 56 in a loss, hopefully reinforcing the Westbrook empty stats narrative.
Edit:
Scott Van Pelt did a really cool one big thing on the awesomeness of the Kingslayer and his MVP status. The war drums grow louder next up OKC and Westbrook, to slay them both in consecutive games (Kiwi sitting out the Kings game) will only tend to ramp up the talk even louder. As Russ becomes more of a stat chaser.

Last night was a setback, not because Kiwi was to blame for the loss but it simultaneously hurts his narrative for MVP and helps Russ'. However all is not lost a win, better yet a dominant one against the Dubs will kick things back into high gear and we will still be one game behind the Dubs while owning the tiebreaker over them. You can't win them all and if I was told we would have a week playing the Rox, Kings, Thunder and Dubs, go 3-1 in that week while simultaneously winning 9 of our last 10 games, I take that all day every day. Having first place outright going into next week would have been too sweet but being a game back with momentum isn't a bad consolation prize. Still pretty much in a very good place for a Kiwi MVP, HCA and our 6th le (in reverse order of importance).
It's a new week and mission accomplished. The Spurs now own the league's best record and the narrative is the "best player on the team with the best record" will give the Kingslayer's MVP candidacy more steam. That plus another 30 point game.
Not exactly as planned but it'll do.
He for sure should be the MVP. I'd leave a specialty award like DPOY for a specialist.
Ah this week will tell the tale, the last big games among the MVP favorites. For the Kingslayer it starts Monday against LeBron and the Cavs, followed by a game against the team with the best record in the league the dubs. With a little help from the Rox, a victory over the Dubs could net the Spurs the best record in the league. Finally a game against Westbrook and the Thunderefs. If the Spurs can sweep those 3 games and the best record in the league could seriously shift the narrative, to best player on the best team right before the season ends.
