Crazy.
The local media has really been pushing this narrative lately, but they're doing so with little to no context. This is a historical offensive era in general and season specifically. All kinds of ridiculous counting and advanced stats are being assembled. Rule changes and superior shooting/spacing has given players advantages offensively that those of yesteryear didn't enjoy.
To give you an idea of the extent of the difference between eras, only the Mavericks aren't averaging at least 100 ppg. In Duncan's MVP seasons, in the first, only the Mavericks, Lakers and Magic did and in the second, only the Mavericks, Warriors and Lakers did.
Leonard's usage percentage is also 2 and 3 percent higher, respectively, than Duncan's MVP seasons. Of course, he's also a far superior range shooter, so naturally when you combine all these things, he's scoring more, but I still think Duncan was the better offensive hub.
Just watched some footage from the 1999 Spurs/Knicks Finals. Tim was an incredible, athletic beast with consummate skill. People forget...
Harden got Trump hands...
Yet no one made the game grades, ungrateful bus s.
