racist Repugs are laughing the asses off at their "urban"-insult joke of Carson running HUD
Say What? Twitter Agog Over Ben Carson’s ‘Hippocampus Drilling’ Tale
Drill into someone’s hippocampus and add a few electrodes so they can recite an entire book verbatim that they’d read decades ago.
That’s the brave new world, in the words of neurosurgeon-turned-Housing Secretary Ben Carson.
Carson explained his intriguing process during a pep talk with agency employees Monday.
(Keep in mind this is the same speech in which he compared slaves to immigrants.)
The brain, he said, in a convoluted argument against government aid, “remembers everything you’ve ever seen, everything you’ve ever heard.
I could take the oldest person here, make a hole right here on the side of the head and put some depth electrodes into their hippocampus and stimulate, and they would be able to recite back to you verbatim a book they read 60 years ago.
It’s all there.
It doesn’t go away.”

"but but but Obama did it too!" is the new "
I'm not racist, I have black friends!"
It's been said already...
At least HNIC mentioned involuntarily...
Did you not look at the post right above yours before you started with the autistic screeching?
I'm not sure where Google is getting its definition from, but Marriam-Webster defines immigrant more precisely as "a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence". That seems to indicate that the person moving is doing so for their own specified purpose. Regardless, abductees would probably be a more much fitting term for the slaves in this context.

I like how Darrin posted the quote and then looks like waited bout 11 seconds before posting the crickets
11 times Obama referred to slaves as immigrants

I think mentioning they had not com here voluntarily is a big difference to just blanketing calling them immigrants.
Did people forget or something?
Nope. But still different from calling them immigrants in general. Sure, Carson had no malicious intent. His clueless ass never does, but it still doesn't prevent him from always looking dumb on the big stage whether it was his poor performances in debates, making misstatements in TV appearances, and now this. He should realize the MSM is looking for anything to take him down with so he should be more careful how he says things especially with a sensitive topic like slavery. I know you're a neo-con, but you don't have to act so obtuse all the time.
Practiced on himself, tbh.
I don't think Carson was saying anything horrible. While I doubt the folks on Amistad were really thinking about the great lives their kids would have in New York, I imagine that the American Dream affected them just like everyone else. There was that dude Anthony Johnson who went from former slave to indenturing Europeans.
Also, slavery didn't used to be a permanent, transferable status. That is a lot newer in comparison. In fact, you can pretty much put a date to when it happened in the US/American Colonies. And in Africa, slavery worked completely differently than it ended up working in the New World. They say the slaves had every expectation to be treated humanly and be afforded a certain opportunity for upward mobility. Obviously, I think they got over that idea by the time the 20th corpse was tossed overboard on their journey.
Slaved dreamed of things more than just being free, and they dreamed them long before the Abolitionist movement really started to kick in. To think that they didn't have similar ambitions as immigrants (economic independence, social equality, desire to keep their own culture while integrating into the fabric of American society) is rather dehumanizing. Dunno if that's what Carson was getting at though.
Kinda how our new Secretary of Education praised Historically Black Colleges/Universities for being schools of "choice"
bandwagoner fans suck
"Carson was saying anything horrible"
He HORRIBLY exposed his tone-deafness, his ignorance, while playing into the Repug propaganda that
"slavery wasn't so bad, slaves were happy campers, and would be better off today as slaves under The Man"
He seems to be medical nerd, ignorant of anything outside of his medical specialty.

Where's Wild Cobra to run in and concur how some slaves were better off being slaves than being free
