He wasn't with me. I can hardly watch the Spurs w/o Timmy. Never knew this but I guess I was more of a Timmy fan than a Spurs fan. Hoping the playoffs will get my interest back
For the basketball pundits, Tim has and will always have a bigger name recognition, tbh... even Manu would tell you that.
"Popularity" is a relative term... in San Antonio, due to the market, the latino roots probably helped. But he's also a HoF on his own, tbh... flashy in his hey days, always compe ive and ruthless...
I'm sure most fans of other teams hate/hated him. Coaches in general have really nice words about him.

Finished 10 07-08 (coming off the bench for 2/3 of the season), 8th 10-11
Cause he's not gay.
You're understating the talent on that team. 5 or 6 NBA players. A few prett legit.
I don think Manu was ever more popular than Duncan.
Maybe for a few moments, but in general Duncan was always considered the best player and the soul of the team.
Manu just got to be the heart.
And Tony the
Player fan. Smh...
When it comes to popularity of a player there are few indicators I used to measure it. The indicators are commercials and endorsements, jersey and shoe sales, being voted into the all-star game. Lets go to the first indicator which is commercials and endorsements. Duncan despite not being popular like Kobe, Lebron still had a few national commercials every now and then along with endorsements from companies like American Express. Manu never got those type of commercials or endorsements. Duncan was voted in to the All-star game for most of '00s up until the late '00s while Manu never got voted in. Both Duncan and Manu were never able to sell sneakers but lets go into jersey sales. Duncan made it in the top 10 in jersey sales a few times in his career while Manu never did. Most recently in the 2014 playoffs Duncan was third in playoff jersey sales only behind Lebron and Durant. During Duncan's final year in the NBA he was 11th in Jersey sales which was still ahead of Manu. In conclusion Manu was never more popular than Duncan. Down below are some links to the jersey sales.

just realized... on the road, there's usually a contingent of manu fans. can honestly say that is not the case with parker.
when it is tim duncan it is ok to be one tbh
again Mexicans love Spanish speaking people
not only mexicants but also all the other latin s out thers
Colombians are Latin s too, tbh.
Would love to date a colombian lady. Sadly, Latinos don't fancy the country north of the USA. There's a visible Asian Minority here, but 8
75% of the population is still white and 15% Aboriginal.
How "open" are latinas? Do they put out easily?
Manu was a very entertaining player.
Two reasons
1) a fellow Spanish speaking player who the s in San Antonio can identify with
2) actually shows personality on the court
2 is pretty much the reason why players become so likable in the first place. It's why Curry will always be more popular than Leonard. Curry does the "stanky leg" and "booty doo" after every made shot while Leonard has the personality of a toll booth operator
Also probably same reason justin Beaver is more popular than Mozart.
Ignorance
And yet Manu on the court was more of a maestro like Mozart than a hack like Bieber... the only ignorance here on the Manu topic is being demonstrated by you.
spurfan could easily relate to him. manu choking away championships reminds fans of themselves when they choke on tacos and burgers
Because Manu is a character. He's incredibly interesting to watch regardless who you're rooting for because he could save your team either way. He does exciting things. He does unexpected things. He will be a great NBA coach one day.
As if Spurs fans have ever had any problems getting a burger or taco down.
6'6'' shotting guards that hit threes, dunk on people and throw all-time great passes (even with some TO's here and there) are very popular players, tbh.
people who swat bats are popular
