Can you do a review on big trouble in little China?
So I was pretty excited to watch another movie from Shane Carruth. Primer was pretty cool.
But Upstream Color sucks. I seriously had to look up some interviews to see if I missed soemthing. I was hoping that he would reveal something that I missed and I would think "holy ", it's genius.
But no...you can pick it all up from watching this slow and frustrating movie.
1/10

Sure. Funny timing. I've actually been thinking of rewatching. I haven't seen it in maybe 30 years. And it keeps popping up on "best movies on Netflix (or Prime)".
I know it was good but it'll be interesting to see if it holds up.
Jack Burton: When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye, and asks you if you paid your dues; you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have you paid your dues, Jack? Yes sir, the check is in the mail."
It's definitely one of the most pretentious hipster arthouse movies ever made......but I still like it
I wanted to like it. Enough that I watched the whole thing. I thought it started off nicely up through the interaction between the chick and the thief.
Maybe my rating was based on my expectation of something similar to Primer. But like I said, I kept waiting for that "holy " moment that never came.
Just dull to me. I suppose that if someone went in with no expectations, they might have some appreciation for the bull .
Cudos to you if you watched Primer and still enjoyed this movie. TBH, I think this would have been better as a one hour episode of Black Mirror.
I share the sentiments in the OP. Primer is one of my all time favorites, so I was excited about it. It was needlessly cryptic.
