Aw crap: "Bertans’ journey to the NBA included twice blowing out the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee."
Could this be a reasonable explanation why Cementhead limits his minutes so much?
    Naw.

“He’s a really well-rounded player who is going to have a great future. He just needs minutes and experience.” -Gregg CIA Pop.

Isn't this what he said about Boban as we closed in on the 2016 playoffs?

Yes something similar. I am not expecting Davis to play much in the playoffs except in adversity situations.

He should get all of Anderson/Simmons minutes at the back up SF in the playoffs because he's the better player than both, but it won't happen. Surprised Pop finally played him at the position he mainly played overseas tonight.

If Pop would pair him with a pg with any vision instead of Simmons and Murray, he'd get even more wide open looks. Unfortunately, those two guards have tunnel vision at times.

I really wish Pop would play him at the back up wing next to Manu and Patty in the playoffs.

Underrated passer/playmaker too. I like the small ball possibilities with him and Leonard too.

It can work against the Grizz but Bertans would get eaten alive on D vs the Rockets and Warriors SFs. He doesn't have the right kind of quickness to guard large sections of the 3 point line.

    That's an exaggeration.

I've watched him pretty closely all damn year and most of the time when he's been switched on a perimeter player, he's held his own for the most part -- staying in front of his man and contesting. He's just as quick, if not quicker on his feet than Kyle Anderson.

Maybe, but I doubt that's optimal for San Antonio. It's extremely unlikeley he sees minutes at the 3 since realisticly Green-Leonard already take about 38 of those.

Pop probably opts for kyle because he isnt a mistake Prone on D and is a better fit with gasol and lee. They usually need three guys that can handle a pick and roll offensivley since the ball swings.

I understand Kawhi and Green get an uptick in minutes in playoffs but there's still a role for the 4th wing depending on the game ( is it compe ive, is it a game 5 with a 2-2 series at stake?, Is there a 10 point lead? is there a 20 point lead?). All those variables play a part in the minutes for the 4th wing. That being said, Bertans' IQ and athleticism on the defensive end is underrated. He's very close to Anderson defensively, and at the same time, he is miles ahead of Kyle on offense. In this sense, he's a better player and a better fit next to Manu and Patty off the bench IMO.

Agreed here. He's also like Kyle in that he's a good enough shot blocker that getting beaten off the dribble isn't always a disaster.

Are you wanting some funky-huge Green/Leonard/Bertans/Aldridge/Gasol (Lee) lineup? No-PG lineups might be a key to advancing far given how weak that position is for the Spurs.

I agree! IMO, Kyle offensive game is more for regular season, where defense are more relax compared to playoffs defense. I think Bertans quickness and more consistent outside shooting compared to Kyle's will be a factor come playoffs.

In stints I would like to see something like that. Especially against the Warriors or Rockets. Those two teams will exploit Parker and Mills all night if not. I think two 5 minute stints a game of lineups that don't consist of Patty or Parker would be a way to optimize the chance at getting stops consistently. We will see how that plays out if/when Spurs get past Memphis.
