    Hey guys,

Im looking to buy a small at least 14 inch laptop, good power, enough to surf the web quickly, play DVDs, and once in a while play a game like CSI or what not.

Oh yeah, it has to have a PCMCIA type 2 slot for my aircard.

Anyone know of a good one?

The VAIOs look good, but the specs don't show them having a Type 2 PCMCIA slot.

    Thanks for your help!

I'm on my second Dell laptop (my latest is an Inspiron) and it's great. They've been the most reliable computers I've owned, and I know some of the other brands can be cantankerous.

Not being a computer expert I appreciate a computer that actually works when you turn it on, that's fast, and requires little maintenance. My Dell laptop is about 2 years old already and still is a champ. I'll probably reluctantly upgrade this fall just to keep up with technology, but I'm definitely going Dell again for round 3.

    Thanks for the advice.

Ill check their website to see if they have the small thin laptops.

I cant stand this 17 inch monster anymore.

I was hoping to get a new one, and prefarably one of the really light and thin ones.

Unfortunately, I dont think any of those have the TYPE II PCMCIA slots for my Cingular card.

HP has been taking market share from Dell over the last several months. There's a reason for that. The V2000 ($449) or V2000Z ($499) may be exactly what you need. 14" screen, 5.2 lbs, 1.29" thin. The Z's have AMD processors and ATI graphics which may meet your gaming needs more than the built-in Intel graphics on the V2000. Both have a type I/II slot.

My wife and I have used Compaq/HP for years, never had a problem, and the newer models are getting even better. Dell has the hype but HP's boxes are quite compe ive.

When you say at least fourteen, do you mean no bigger than that or no smaller?

I think Dell makes a nice 12.1 that supports one type one or one type 2.

I have two Dell laptops and when the time comes for another I'll certainly be buying another with Complete Care....

HP/Compaq just had to recall 15,000 laptop batteries due to them overheating and melting parts in the laptop

The major culprits are the batteries in the V2000 series. Good luck with that!

Tpark, shoulda asked two days ago. I picked up a new Dell XPS M140 laptop: 1.8 Centrino, 60 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, Windows XP Media Center, 14.1" TruBright screen, 4 hour battery life for $630.

I was trying to save you some cash, but if money is not the problem ? then try this........

    Toshiba Qosmio G25-AV513

    Type: Gaming, Media
Operating System: MS Windows XP Media Center
Processor Name: Intel Pentium M 760
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    RAM: 1024 MB
    Hard Drive Capacity: 120 GB
    Graphics: nVidia GeForce 6600 Go
    Primary Optical Drive: Dual-Layer DVD+/-RW
    Wireless: 802.11a/b
    Screen Size: 17 inches
    Screen Size Type: widescreen
    System Weight: 9.4 lbs

    By Cisco Cheng

We loved the first-generation Toshiba Qosmio E15 ($2,899), with its multimedia flare and extensive AV features, and we're happy to report that the trend continues with the Toshiba Qosmio G25-AV513 ($2,899 as tested), our Editors' Choice for multimedia notebooks. The G25 has the most AV ports we've seen on a multimedia notebook, including a TV tuner, component video, and composite video in. And this Media Center's new design means that the desktop replacement laptop can slide right into your entertainment center among your other electronics components. We can't remember the last time we were this impressed with a laptop.

Sorry I didn't read the topic I just saw laptop needed

my bad. I will return to the Troll nation

before I go back to that hole check out this "12" ultra light

    Gateway announces E-100M / NX100X ultraportable

The two are essentially the same, but Gateway's back in the ultraportables game as of today with their E-100M and NX100, the professional and consumer versions of their teensy 12.1-inch 3.15 pounder. A little out of the norm for your average Gateway, these things feature a magnesium body, some new Intel Core Solo 1300 ULV processor we've yet to hear anything about, measure less than an inch thick, have 6-in-1 media readers, 802.11a/b/g, gigabit Ethernet, and options for up to 1GB of RAM, and Bluetooth. Prices start at $1,400 -- time to get your small on.

I just ordered a Dell notebook two days ago. I love Dell and have always been satisfied with the performance. My sister has a VAIO. They run really well and the graphics are pretty amazing.
As for Compaq, I've had bad experience with it. But Gateway and Toshiba notebooks are good.
