As much as I keep rooting for Simmons, he kept making bonehead TOs all spring which probably moved him further down the rotation.. When it comes to the playoffs, your bench players have to be pretty damn solid unless it is a blowaway game.
At his best, Simmons is better than Anderson, but he's been terrible the past few months and the best that can be hoped for is either not killing them in spot minutes. The bigger issue is Ginobili, who has to be able to provide a solid low 20's minutes to render these two mostly irrelevant.
Simmons probably isn't getting re-signed, especially if Mills is re-signed. He clearly has an inflated sense of self worth, doesn't seem all that coachable and probably won't be amendable to a fringe rotation role going forward until a few more stops down the line when he's forced to accept his role in the league. They probably won't want to pay him a decent amount to be that either, not when they've got Murray waiting in the wings and Hanga as a possible option overseas.

Simmons brings energy. Anderson brings a little more control, good defense, and rebounding. I think Pop just decides which of the two play from game flow. If Anderson could shot threes (and not pass up open shots) he would get a ton of playing time at the 4. If Simmons played under control, he'd be a fixture. Because they are good but flawed, Pop has to choose on game flow. Simmons seemed to get better run in game 1, Anderson in game 2.
Simmons aka "Warrior Kryptonite."
His day will come.
Anderson still outplayed him, but it didn't look great for him starting out. It's possible that Manu is the odd one out, but it's at least a question whether Pop wants to give Simmons minutes. Would take another game for me to do something, given that Kyle was aggressive exactly like he needed to be. He was the third-leading scorer with 15 points on 10 possessions.
Would love to see the bench consist of:
Dedmon-Bertans-Anderson-Simmons-Mills/Murray
Simmons will have to play, and play well, for the Spurs to make much noise in the playoffs . . .

Kyle has played well and doesn't deserve a benching.
Manu is deserving of a benching and one that I know Pop won't feel comfortable with.
We shall see next game.
I'd like that too, with Murray instead of Mills for me please.
Simmons has had plenty of chances to prove himself, tbh..he's had a longer leash than any other young/inexperienced player on the team(Dedmon, Anderson, Bertans, Murray) IMO..he just hasn't been able to string a consistent stretch together in 2 years..just like last season, Pop had Simmons ahead of Anderson for most of the year, but the latter earned more trust down the stretch..
He's a nice energy player, though..I don't mind seeing him on the court when the team is flat or due to foul trouble..obviously it would be ideal if Pop gave him some PT when Manu is going through one of his horrible stretches, too, but that probably won't happen..
U clearly failed with everything you just said...Kyle is horrible...
Kyle played well????? Dont count garbage time...count when it actually mattered...he was HORRIBLE!
How can you be consistent when you NEVWR know when you are gonna play? These dudes are human...even Kaehi plays like trash when his minutes get thrown out of whack
Fathead was a walking POS yesterday.![]()
he had 5 points on perfect shooting b4 garbage time.
he made a mistake, but count how many mistakes your veterans made while also being awful shooting.
You better get over it dude.. you will be whining the entire playoffs and next season
but I know you won't and will continue to be a crybaby.
SAG is chippy today.
This was the type of game from Kyle that we all should have been waiting for. It's something to build on, a bit of upside the team has been lacking outside of Kawhi and hopes of Murray all year.
He did know he was playing every single game. He was averaging 20 minutes earlier in the season and his minutes of late only fell bc his play also declined.
Kyle OTOH was the dude who didn't get played with regularity through the season... among others, along with Bertans and Murray.
I am not even hating on Simmons bc it's unwarranted. He could play frankly and maybe he should but not at Kyle's expense.
Kyle just didn't have the coach's trust to play like that with regularity.
Simmons clearly did have the vote of confidence and was pushed all season. I am glad he also had a good game frankly.
I was even feeling tempted to quote TD 21 who was arguing Manu was going to have to play 20 "something minutes" to bail out or hided the fact that the two of them (Kyle and Simms) were unplayable, more or less. Looks to me like it's the reverse... but I am going to let that one go bc I don't want to get into a penis match with TD 21 (since I don't have a penis it's pointless)
Kyle finally exhibits how useful he can be given matchups and styles and now we cry about Simmons.
This board is impossible...
If we get Houston we will most likely get more Simmons.
heh
I agree. Pop will likely play Simmons more against Houston... and he may need to look at what he's doing with Manu and Mills. Both have been horrible. Mills made some shots last game, but he can't run an offense, and Manu is done.
what pissed me off about manu was the statement he made before the playoffs that generally suggested he just doesn't get as upset about losing anymore and his mindset is not the same. that's great if he wants to be a stoic, but it sure has no place in basketball. that to me told me he just needs to retire. say what you want about simmons and anderson (depending on what side you are on), but at least they are out there giving an effort. if manu's mind is not where it needs to be then take him out of the rotation.
Sup, MOD.
I saw the statement the same way you are seeing it.
Manu's argentinian fans just always have an excuse ready for him.
I saw a player that is nostalgic about the whole season bc it's very likely the last... but also someone who feels the game is no longer about him and who isn't hungry for anything else at this point in his career (and it's natural he's not hungry).
As you said at least Simms and Kyle are hungry and showed it when they refused to bend over in garbage time and kept trying to cut into a lead. They played against Memphis starters, garbage or not what they did was impressive.
Bertans also showed he wants to win. Heck I even liked Murray a lot more than Manu.
