I have never understood a team's motivation to be an 8th seed when they don't even have a chance in of winning the series. In most case you are better off with the lottery pick even if it's a low lottery pick.

If you are Portland, do you just rationalize that The absence of Nurkic was the problem? They have some decent players but they are mostly on bad contracts. I doubt they can move any of their guys on favorable terms at all. Not sure they could even "blow it up" with all those bad contracts. So are they just doomed to perpetual mediocrity?

Portland are a pathetic defensive team; their front-line without Nurkic is easily bottom 5 in the entire league..

Think the Jazz can steal Game 1 vs an undercooked Warriors team who got barely tested..

They looked pretty damn good with Nurkic, being top 10 in offense/defense with him on the court. However, it was a small sample size and they match up horribly with Golden State regardless (they were literally built to be an inferior version of them). They also can't move any of those bad deals for another two years (when they become expirings). Best case scenario they're like the Spurs/Rockets in that with the right matchups they can make it to the WCF.
