Id like to think so, but the Lakers, like the Knicks, will always be held in higher regard just because of the town they're in. , people still act like that last Knicks championship was only a few years ago, and talk about it with such reverence even though it was 44 years ago.

After 2000 Shaq was in pacing himself in regular season mode even taking surgeries to start a season/training camp.
2000 was the last year he was the best player AND PLAYED HARD FOR 82 games and he won it almost unanimously...since its a regular season award and doesnt go to the best player...or Jordan would have more ...Shaq has about what he should get.
Yes a case can be made he deserved one of Nash's but it wasnt a robbery.in fact Lebron and Kobe had better cases unless you prefer the mefia narrative bull reasons.

Iverson getting the 2001 MVP was such a joke. Almost as bad as Westbrook getting this year's MVP.
Agree Shaq was clearly better and more dominant...but if he wanted rhe award he would have cane to camp in shape. Iverson didnt truly deserve it but in 2001 outside of practice he gave his all for 82 plus games. ..
Remember, this awards are voted on by the same people that are being fired by the hundreds because of their ty takes, narrative creators and pushers. Basically sports marketing disguised as sports news. They saw it coming, which is why they worked so hard to create interesting stories from first round exit ball hogs like Westbrook.
When a news organization becomes part of the en y it's reporting on, you know there's no longer any integrity in the awards or news. Fans know who the real winners are.
