1st, he didn't mean to slam her on the ground. He slipped. At that point he should have chilled and attended to her. So all that was wrong, just touching or picking her up. He was just going to toss her in the pool. That's not good either, but there's no real violent intent here, it just escalated because of the tendency around peers.
