The D was pretty good. Not bad, but not his best. What was great, however, was him help down low on the roll-man. Dude harassed Capela all series long. Again, bigs helping smalls is expected, but smalls helping bigs is what makes a D a truly cohesive unit.
Yup, interior and at-the-rim defense from the wings is what makes the Spurs great.
Simmons defending 1 on 1 with Green as the free safety has looked great the past 2 games, tbh..

You add Kawhi to the mix and that's a formidable defensive trio. I would think about playing Kawhi at the 4 with those guys against GS when they need to lock down defensively. However the length of Gasol/Aldridge was also a big factor in this game. It helped prevent Harden from getting going. It wasn't just Gasol's three blocks but all the shots he altered.
I like Danny when he got into it with Ariza love the passion bring it in the next series

Someone lit a fire under Danny Green. Hope it stays that way. When the Spurs have done really well, there was always that game that the "other" guys woke up and said "we will not go quietly into that good night".
Pretty sure Danny literally did that in Game Five after Harden tripped him to allow Beverly that open three. I remember the guys on the floor huddling and Green talking emphatically. Then in the post-game interview when he was talking about the team not wanting to "lose the game being on [their] heels]." It's just a little intangible thing, but it's what separates the Spurs' role-players from the ones on the Rockets.
In other news, Danny is shooting 88 percent at the rim in these playoffs. He's also shooting 58 percent from two in general. Both are the highest among regular rotation players on the team.
Danny Green is doing his damn thing overall like usual in the playoffs. Anyone, who still after all these years and great contributions from Danny, still doesn't get his value you can literally GTFO of this forum.
That D last night looked suffocating and Spurs 101 style.
Play tough nose perimeter D with aggressive man as featured by Simmons, Green, and Patty (and even Aldridge), force them into the heart of the D (Pau, Aldridge, Lee) while executing perfectly on rotations on the backside. Simmons' perimeter D is a must in this series. Along with what you always get fromGreen and Kawhi.
All too often last night the Rockets played into our hands and didn't make the right pass. The Dubs won't make that same mistake consistently though. So help side D is going to have to be on point.
Expect Anderson to get lots of PT due to his versatility, especially when Livingston and Igoudala are playing. And he's a great option at the 4 in certain small ball lineups. And he wouldn't be a bad switch option on Durant in PNR defense.
And he'd be perfect to check West with his length and better athleticism.
Anderson and Simmons' D are going to be the key to this series, tbh. Assuming we even have a healthy Kawhi to begin with.
Danny came up big in this series, but none of it matters if he pulls a disappearing act against GS. We need him to show up at both ends against them.

What? Green's not some rookie. He doesn't have to prove himself anymore. He may have a bad series, but so what? The team needed him in this series and his delivered. If he had fallen apart, maybe there's a Game Seven or maybe they don't get past Houston at all. That's always going to have value in the same way Tony showing up against Memphis had value.
