Comey Damns Trump By Saying He Didn’t Write Memos On Obama Because Obama Was Truthful

A source close to former FBI Director James Comey said that he didn't write memos about his conversations with President Obama because the conversations were routine and Obama was truthful.

Hannity and Fox News are in full meltdown over Trump’s Comey scandal

As conservative writers — such as Ross Douthat — begin to discuss President Donald Trump’s potential impeachment, right-wing media behemoth Fox News is still trying to provide cover for the White House.

    Sean Hannity

    2-Democrats.

    4-weak establishment Republicans
    5-Never Trumpers

    5:42 AM - 17 May 2017

The night before on “Hannity,” the right-wing host led off his monologue with a paranoid rant claiming that “Trump-hating” Washington Post got its story about the president sharing highly classified intelligence with the Russian ambassador and foreign minister when they visited him in the Oval Office wrong.

Hannity claimed that many administration officials have denied the report on its face — this, despite the fact that national security adviser Gen. H.R. McMaster offered only a fact-free non-denial denial when he addressed The Washington Post story on the White House lawn.

While MSNBC and CNN were running breaking news chyrons alerting viewers about allegations that Trump had asked Comey to end the FBI’s probe into Gen. Mike Flynn,

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson was doing a story on the Clinton Foundation.

Things Are So Bad That Fox News Couldn’t Find A Republican To Come On The Air To Defend Trump

After the news of the Comey memo had broken, Fox News could not find a single Republican member of Congress who was willing to go on the conservative news network to defend Trump.

Trump stormed off and left staffers to clean up after Comey memo — and now they’re dreading his tweets

the day closed with revelations of a memo showing Trump asked former FBI director James Comey to end his investigation of disgraced national security adviser Mike Flynn, reported Politico.

“Nobody knows where this really goes from here,” a White House official said. “Everyone is walking around saying, ‘What is next?'”

Top White House officials knew the bombs report on the Comey memo was coming two hours before the New York Times posted it online, and

the president angrily retreated to his residence upstairs within 75 minutes of the story going live.

That left aides to “figure out how bad the fallout was,” Politico reported, but without tape recordings or even a full readout of Trump’s conversation with Comey, which took place the day after Flynn resigned.

White House surrogates were reluctant to go on TV to defend the president because they weren’t sure what to say, and Fox News host Bret Baier complained Tuesday night that no Republicans were willing to go on camera to push back against the Comey memo.

“We are kind of helpless,” said one White House official.

Why did the president ask Pence and Sessions to leave the room when he talked to Comey?

“This is the kind of conversation that rational, experienced presidents know not to have,” Ruth Marcus writes.

“It is the kind of conversation that a White House counsel should make sparklingly, crystal clear to a president that he is not to engage in, not even close.

    It is

the kind of conversation that seems completely in character for Trump, who, over the course of the campaign and now in office, has betrayed no — zero — understanding of the necessary separation of the president and his Justice Department

when it comes to making independent judgments about political matters and political opponents.”

The Comey memo was also about Trump’s request to arrest reporters.

Journalists are accustomed to President Trump’s contempt for the press by this point, but his apparent desire to jail reporters who publish classified information still sent shockwaves through the profession.

The New York Times published a story with details from a memo written by former FBI Director James Comey about a meeting he had with Trump in February. Although the memo has mostly generated controversy for Trump’s reported attempt to squelch an investigation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, the president also reportedly asked Comey to bring charges against journalists who publish classified information:

“Alone in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump began the discussion by condemning leaks to the news media, saying that Mr. Comey should consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.”
Yahoo News reached out to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an independent nonprofit dedicated to defending the rights of journalists around the world, for reaction to Trump’s reported desire to jail journalists.

Joel Simon, who has been the executive director of the CPJ since 2006, has led the organization’s efforts to protect press freedom in the digital space. He helped establish the CPJ’s Global Campaign Against Impunity and Journalist Assistance program.

    The assault on democracy continues.
