This is likely his only shot at a big payday. He's probably gone.

Simmons needs to start game 3 over Danny Green, we need athleticism and a "hungry" at ude to start the game
Let him be Kawhi's #2 since Aldridge does not want to be.

Must concur, Simmons is a must keep, him next to Kawhi and an emerging Murray and you have a crazy athletic back three. I'd even consider moving Kawhi to the 2 just to make room for Simmons as the starting 3.

He's an Arenas FA, the Spurs can match whatever offer he gets if they want.

manu got offered 14 mil last season from 76ers, so i'd assume Simmons would get at least that

He can't get more than MLE for the first year of his contract.

He won't take a discount and shouldn't. This is his one and only chance to make big money for him and his family. He'd be an idiot to not seize the opportunity

Problem is Spurs are limited in what they can pay him at just over 104.5% of the MLE if they don't use cap space. Some team could sign him to an offer sheet the Spurs can't match economically.

Simmons is alright but I wouldn't break the bank to sign him. To many one year wonders end up being signed to contracts they never live up to.

If Simmons can work on that 3 point shot, he'll be a solid starter.

For those unaware, he's in one of those situations where some team could do the "poison pill" contract. I'm not sure anyone would but maybe a team like philly or Brooklyn. I see Brooklyn as the greatest threat.

I'm sorry. I'd trade Danny to keep Simmons all things measured. You need playmakers post Ginobili...
Only if Simmons develops a 3 point shot

doesn't the Arenas exception apply to Simmons? i mean, basically, the dude can't get paid more than the non-tax-payer-mid-level exception, right?

Simmons has been really good in these playoffs, but his lack of 3 point shot is concerning with this offense. I like the idea of him taking over the Manu role next year, but would really like him a lot more if he could consistently knock down the 3.

Fully agree, but put CP3 at the 1 for now. CP3, Kawhi, Simmons would be a uva back court. Just find some serviceable bigs who actually play like one and we're straight.

if the spurs could somehow pull that off, i would be content with a bertans and aldridge front court.

that is what the poison pill is... he can't get paid that much right now but then his contract is immensely backloaded.... like double the salary or more depending on the offers the last season or two. We don't know what he will get. One has to wonder what he's worth to some team in the league bc he showed things. What is more, he showed those things against the Dubs in the playoffs without kawhi and Tony and with Pau and LMA playing like pussies. He has shown more than Patty IMO. So he's getting paid... we don't know how much, if his contract is poison pill or not, etc.

With MG leaving & possibly patty (but I hope he stays), they need another Wing player that can create his own shot and play some "D".. IN the offseason JSIMMS just need to work on mid-range game and he will be nice.

I agree. He can play the new Manu role.
He doesn't have near the talent that Manu had at his age, nor the BB IQ. What they share, however, is a fierce desire to win, to never quit. And Pop saw that last night as well. We absolutely need a guy like that on the Spurs.
