Gobert, Marc Gasol... doesn't even need to be a center (see Team #3), just a 'big'.

AD is a stat , tbh, but his teams keep on disappointing. He's been in the league for a while now...
I would have voted Donkey face since he plays center about 40% of the time.

The money must be there if the league is setting that threshold. And if so, Kawhi definitely deserves such a deal. I'd say he's no worse than top 3 in the league now. We'll probably see some astronomical contract numbers being thrown around over the next couple of seasons.

It's worse than just that. We're talking $50 Million in 2023 when I am almost certain that the cap will be in the mid-90s at the highest. The TV deal runs out in 2021. With the way ESPN is hemorrhaging subscribers, does anyone think the network is going to give even more money?

No, it's not. It's projected that it will be there for the first two years, but after that is a mystery. Could see the league going throw a minicollapse. I wouldn't touch the DPE until I a) know how the next TV deal will look and b) know if the contracts will be adjusted downwards to reflect the league's economic reality.

Man if AD was on Utah or Memphis those teams would be a lot better...Have Gobert or Gasol on NOLA let's see how good they are..

    Who's been AD's sidekick??

    Gobert got robbed.

    Congratulations Kiwi!!!
    Well deserved.
He'll be worth it if healthy. The Big One.
Cap I assume will go up too. But he's carrying a big burden anyways... deserves to be paid like it.

The Spurs have been great at avoiding getting hit with a current-era max so far in this TV deal. But this DPE may ruin them. That was such a bad idea for the CBA and a huge overreaction that's already backfiring.
Unavoidable for a player of his caliber.
Having a team around him will be tough but Spurs just cannot afford deadweight like they are carrying now for example. As I said b4 this news even: I would not offer Pau more years at less or whatever; he's washed up already. Spurs will have to continue to develop and bargain bin hunt. They cannot afford any more bad Tony/Pau like contracts.

He had the same sidekicks that Frauden took all the way to the 2nd round of the playoffs + Jrue Holiday + now Boogie.

He has a 1st round sweep to show after 5 seasons in the league....

You have to be at another level of awful not to make the playoffs in this West, with both Davis and Boogie...

You know someone is an idiot and a casual once they start using the "take out and replace argument"

Interesting. But you know there will be guys out there asking for that kind of money if it's being touted. Hopefully the league can build some sort of clause for de-escalation into such deals.

I don't know if it is unavoidable. That money is absurd, and I don't think any team could make it work unless the cap can stay at near $110 Million. Sure, they could keep Kawhi, but good luck signing or keeping another star. It may end up really not mattering because 2021 feels like a lockout year right now.

I think it's going to be a huge labor fight whenever the new CBA is up. Owners are going to (rightfully) want the contracts to be scaled down, and the NBPA is going to balk, because it's now run by superstars who will put their max contracts ahead of the overall health of the league.

Players for damn sure are not going to agree on scaling down their contracts. This is on the league for not having these stipulations in the agreement prior.

The alternative is them getting locked out and not receiving anything. This wouldn't be a matter of owners not liking something but having to take it anyway. This could literally cripple the league if the players ignore it. It was likely going to be a lockout had the owners fought for the provision anyway, so it makes sense to not have that fight until it's necessary.

Voting results should be shown. Voters who vote ridiculously should lose their privilege and be replaced.

Allow coaches and gms to vote on whose ballots were the worst. The two worst each year get dropped and two new voters replace.

Curry over Westbrook is totally defensible. One played full season for team with most wins in league. Also, of the five votes that didn't go to Lebron and Kawhi, Durant got three and Green got two. I'm less okay with that but no problem voting for Warriors (other Green votes at center). I do want to know, though, if someone put three Warriors on first team which is not defensible.

But third team, and who did they vote for over Kawhi???

Wow, that's a lot of nachos the Spurs have to sell.

At least Kawhi will be able to afford gas for that ty old Tahoe he drives. So that's one worry off his list.

Doubt Kawhi cares tbh. He'd rather have another Ring than this honor.

I said it was going to happen when they got that huge single-year increase, and a whole bunch of mid-tier players got ridiculous contracts. Now the superstars are going to say, "Well if HE is worth $XXX million, I should be worth $ZZZ million."

They're going to have a hard time taming this beast now.
