Spurs are in deep next season, they gambled on two over-the-hill bigs and will pay for it next season.
It seems to me they already paid for it this season.

I'm just as pissed off, disappointed in his effort as anyone else and was calling for his head but damn, he keep getting double teamed , why didn't pop or the rest of the guys acknowledge this and come up with a follow up plan?
He can't pass the ball adequately out of doubles.

Not so sure, you put LA and Gasol in a 3rd and 4th-5th option offensivelly for both of them and they wouldn´t have sucked as much, LA really showed he cannot handle the double teams very well, would be something he can improve if he wants to, and no matter which player we could have signed, we wouldn´t have gone anywhere whithout KL.

I do believe we need to find ways to turn Gasol into something usefull, he is not that bad of a contract considering he is expiring, you could land a Lou Williams kind of player for him if you add a pick.

In the other hand i would support LA and give him one more year, really, most players are not like Manu and he wasn´t the only guy on the team who played as he was already defeated once KL went down.

He can't pass the ball adequately out of doubles.
I vividly remember an interview with Pop a couple of years ago in which he said that Kawhi had figured out that when a play was called for him, it didn't mean that he had to be the guy to take the shot. It meant he was going to be the primary look, but the best outcome of the play might be for Kawhi to set up another player for the shot. LaMarcus will never grasp that. He is a barely adequate passer when he isn't double-teamed.

^ Great article on how LMA has to adapt in order to remain relevant. Totally agree

guys, we have been a 61 regular season wins and a wcf team.
we were battling the best team in nba and winning by more than 20 points without our starting pg before kiwi injury
and then we lost also lee...
all this with 7 new man on the roster...
...so, I understand the disappontment but, considering the contracts, I would not mind to have all the some guys back for another run...the problem, in case, is if if we can afford that.

Not worth severely overpaying Mills. Would like to see Simmons comeback.

Yep. Mills is probably replaceable. Trying to play him at the PG has made this obvious.
And regardless of the inconsistency, Simmons has shown he can play at this level. Spurs are paying Green for less contribution.

LMA has failed my eye test for quite a while. But to see the numbers in this article convinces me he has to go now more than ever. Even if the Spurs get nothing in return, they will be rid of his contract and his on-court "demands."

I am afraid that signing LMA may have been the downfall of this proud franchise. His opportunity cost is really high.

How is his opportunity cost high? We could move him right now for nothing.

based on pop's defense of LMA (and Pau) today, it seems highly unlikely that either is gone by the start of next season.

People have to understand that Warriors team is just stacked. Spurs had injurys, Gasol and Aldridge were not impressive these playoffs but still are good and capable players. Warriors almost have an all-star team on the court, Spurs got smoked in the WCF because with the injury's and the Leonard injury (intentional or not) it was just to overwhelming for them. Maybe they can learn from this and get better, that's why you suit up and play. Spurs will have something to prove to the Warriors next year.

this take. Spurs dominated the minutes when everyone was healthy. GSW cannot account for Leonard.

Youre an idiot. Gasol got scored on at least 30 times last night alone.

Pretty much. Aldridge has a lot of work to do and now he knows it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Nowhere to hide now.

Leonard on the other hand was scoring all over the place before he got hurt

By investing $22MM/year in him 2 years ago, he wrapped up that cap space and prevented our using those dollars on other players.
