A lot of was buried in the salad days by Media. Once ---small fry--- Media heard the police call (she went after him with that pitching wedge) on their scanners the dam collapsed & his goose was cooked.

You can damn well believe that Nicklaus is one happy white man, &.

Pretty sure OJ beats Tiger. Kobe was even worse than that. All Tiger did was cheat on his wife, he didn't rape.

I knew somebody was going to lodge Kobe, but, I never thought you'd stoop there.

    I was mistaken.

OJ or Steve McNair don't count because they were at least long retired.

Sure it counts, retired or not. Tiger's infidelity had nothing to do with his sport, wasn't illegal, wasn't shocking. Pete Rose would be another. Dude was banned from the HOF.

It has more to do for me with his catastrophic loss of form in his athletic prime rather than the infidelity part. He has not come close to winning a major since June 2008.

It wasn't Eldrick's infidelity that ruined his career. It was the PGA finally cracking down on steroids after he won his last major, followed by Anthony Galea getting caught smuggling HGH into the US.

Furthermore, golf has a lot more parity now than it did during Eldrick's prime. The sport is now loaded with phenomenal talents, and none of them were ever afraid of Eldrick. It's not 20 years ago anymore, when the talent pool was so shallow that guys like David Duval were getting hyped as possible "rivals" to Eldrick. He could no longer compete with both the young guns and the veterans with natural games who aged well.

That's not the same as 'fall from grace". Btw, guys like him (few and far in between) don't usually have slow drops. Dude was at the top for 20 years, and got there almost right away, and dropped out due to injury, so right away. It's amazing he ran that long.

How do you get injured playing golf?

I mean, there are 70 year olds that play it at a high level.

Cycling is such an esoteric sport though, a lot of people cannot even identify him. I think everyone who could identify him knew he was cheating.

Put Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds in there as well as Canseco. I cannot believe MLB still recognizes their numbers.

Rae Carruth, Aaron Hernandez, and Lawrence Phillips should be on that list but below OJ and Tiger.

Good calls with Lance and OJ. I don't think Pete Rose quite reaches the other 3, but he's another good mention.

It think the scandal and his drop off in play will always be linked, unfairly or not. I mean, I have no clue how how was ranked first for so long, his splits are staggering.

    1997-2007: 59 tour wins, 13 majors

    2007-2017: 18 tour wins (10 before scandal in 2009, none after 2013), 1 major (2008)

Honorable mentions. But, you need to be close to GOAT status in your sport to qualify IMO.

Lance was the GOAT cyclist....Tiger was on pace to pass Jack....etc.

OJ is the biggest strictly speaking 'fall from grace' however, but Tiger's fall off is just amazing.

Easily? Playing golf can be rough on your back, knees and joints. The pro golfers that play into their 70s are the ones who always did the proper exercises for their sport, as opposed to roiding up and doing an insane weightlifting routine every week like Eldrick did in his prime. He was lifting 5-6 days a week when most pros only lift two or three days a week at the most.

Yah, thats a good point, but the Tour De France is pretty global I feel. Like any major sporting event, it'll draw the casual fans strictly because its on TV. Granted I don't know about cycling, but I knew who Lance was, he was a big deal with the Livestrong etc. He was a well liked figure, especially with him losing hit nuts or whatever, but still, he was dominating the sport for years, and then just fell of a cliff. The MLB is a god damn joke and everyone knows it. Mark, Bonds, Sosa, Tejada, A-Fraud, Canseco, Manny R, the list goes on and on. I agree , all those numbers should be expunged, and expunged ASAP. Pretty disrespectful to the ones who came before them if I'm honest.

But Lance was retired from cycling as well.

I still feel like Pete Rose is perhaps the biggest of all time. Iron Mike is up there as well.
